Batman’s Hill has nothing to do with that Batman at all…..
The Batman’s Hill area in Melbourne is named after John Batman – one of Melbourne’s founders. And the “hill” no longer exists either…
In 1836, John Batman took up residence on the hill with his family. However, he died not long after in 1839, but the hill survived until 1866, when it was removed to make way for … the traffic.
The Batman’s Hill hotel is named after Batman and his hill, and is one of the oldest hotels in the area. You wouldn’t know that, though, when you go inside. The 190 rooms are modernly appointed with all the amenities you could possibly want: air conditioning, mini-fridge, tea and coffee making facilities, flatscreen TV, safe, hair dryer and iron. There is free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel.
There is a restaurant at the hotel where you can buy breakfast, lunch and dinner, if you’re not in the mood to eat out one day, but you’re surrounded by Australia’s best restaurants – so be sure to eat out on some of the days.
You’re also within walking distance of most of the city’s attractions – and if you fancy a trip to St. Kilda, the tram stops right outside the door.
