Full-day excursion to Frankland Island on the Great Barrier Reef
This tour is perfect for those who want to experience the Great Barrier Reef in a calm and relaxed way.
It’s an early start in Cairns, where you board the bus to Deeral, approx. 45 minutes south of Cairns. You then sail for 30 minutes on the Mulgrave River. Enjoy a cup of coffee on the boat and keep a close eye out for the crocodiles lurking in the river’s mangroves.
From the estuary, it’s just over 10 km to Normanby Island, which is part of the Frankland Island archipelago. The waters around the archipelago form part of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. All the islands are uninhabited yet rich in birdlife, and the waters around the archipelago abound with corals, turtles and colourful fish.
The day is spent on the island, where you can snorkel from the beach, take a guided tour of the small island, have a go at kayaking or perhaps try an SUB (Stand Up Paddleboard).
A delicious buffet lunch is served at midday, and at the end of the day, you head back up the Mulgrave River and by bus back to Cairns.
The price includes: Transport, snorkelling equipment (including a wetsuit to protect you from jellyfish when necessary), guided island walk, lunch, use of kayak and SUB.
If you choose to upgrade to one of the hotels in Palm Cove, you should choose another excursion to the Great Barrier Reef. This tour only departs from Cairns.
