Full-day excursion to Hunter Valley
A good two-hour drive north of Sydney is Australia’s oldest wine region, Hunter Valley.
It is in many ways something of a paradox that Semillon is characterised as the area’s signature grape. The hot, humid climate is not generally considered to be the best conditions for Semillon, which is often said to be a somewhat difficult and not very hardy grape. However, the cool breeze from the sea and the clouds that often accompany it – coupled with the soil found there – make Hunter Valley one of the best places in the world to grow the Semillon grape. Chardonnay is also high on the list of grapes here in the region, and nowhere in Australia can you escape the intense, full-bodied and dark Shiraz.
On this full-day excursion from Sydney, you’ll visit some of the area’s wineries, learn about the production and, of course, have the opportunity to taste the delicious drops.
You’re back in Sydney late afternoon.
