Learn how to do dot painting
Dot painting is inextricably linked with Australia’s Aboriginal people. So, you’ll probably be surprised to learn that it is only 50 years since dot painting was invented! In 1971, school teacher Geoffrey Bardon was working in the small community of Papunya in the middle of the Australian desert. He discovered that when the men were telling their stories and legends, they often drew symbols in the sand to accompany the stories. He encouraged them to immortalise the stories on canvas – and the modern art form came to be.
On this mini-course, which takes a couple of hours, you’ll hear more about the history behind the art form, and you’ll have the opportunity to try your hand at dot painting yourself. You get to take your painting home with you, too, as an eternal reminder of your visit to the Australian outback.
Please note that a minimum number of 5 participants is required for this tour to go ahead. If this number is not reached, the tour will be cancelled, and you will, of course, get your money back.
