Today you will fly to the Island of the Gods, with connecting flight(s) on the way.

You land at Bali’s international airport, Ngurah Rai, in the main city of Denpasar. Upon your arrival, you go through immigration, where you receive your tourist visa and then collect your luggage. Your guide will be waiting for you in the arrivals hall, holding up a TourCompass sign, and you will feel the warm Balinese hospitality immediately. Outside the airport, your diver is ready to drive you to your hotel in the resort town of Sanur, where you can relax after the long flight and acclimatise to the time difference and the hotter temperatures.

After breakfast, you will be driven to the small mountain village of Munduk. On the way, you will visit one of Bali’s most photographed temples, the lovely Ulun Danu. The temple is located on a small island in Lake Bratan, which is so clear that it makes it look like it is floating. Bratan is located at an altitude of 1,200 metres and is surrounded by high mountains. It can therefore be chilly and misty in the area, giving both the lake and the temple an almost mysterious feel. It’s time to go for a walk along the shores of the lake and enjoy the amazing views.

You will then continue to Munduk, one of Bali’s best kept secrets. On your arrival at the hotel in Munduk, the rest of the day is yours to enjoy the picturesque surroundings.

Munduk is a peaceful little town located in the temperate Balinese highlands, roughly 1,000 metres above sea level and surrounded by lush jungle, cascading waterfalls and beautiful rice fields. The area also offers a lot of good hiking trails and stunning vantage points from which you can enjoy the landscape and the surrounding mountains.

Besides its beauty, Munduk is known for growing coffee, cocoa, vanilla, fruit and vegetables. In fact, more fresh vegetables and fruit are grown here in Munduk than anywhere else in Bali. The soil in the area is incredibly fertile, and the climate is perfect and pleasant.

There are also good restaurants serving local, organic produce.

You wake up to fresh air and an outstanding view. After breakfast, you’ll be going on a scenic 2-hour hike in the area around the hotel. The terrain is mostly flat, but there are places on the route where it goes up and down.

The tour takes you past scenic coffee plantations, avocado trees as well as cocoa, vanilla and clove plants. A path leads you down through jungle to the 20-metre-high Red Coral waterfall. Please note that some of the way down to the waterfall is a bit steep and therefore not suitable for people who have difficulty walking. If you don’t want to walk down to the waterfall, you can stay up at the top and enjoy the surroundings and the many beautiful plants, which are labelled with their names. On the way back to the hotel, you will pass beautiful spice gardens and scenic rice fields.

The rest of the day is yours to do as you please.

After a quiet, calm morning at the hotel, you check out, and your guide and driver are ready to drive you to the tranquil beach resort Lovina, which is located on Bali’s northern coast. The drive takes about 1 hour.

Once you arrive in Lovina, the rest of the day is yours to do as you please.

Lovina has good restaurants, beautiful surroundings and long beaches, known for their dark, glistening lava sand and gentle waves. For a lot of people, Lovina is all about the dolphin safari. However, we have chosen not to offer this, as the experience does not live up to our animal welfare standards, which you can read more about here.

From the beach in the evening, you can watch the sun set out on the horizon, which is an incredibly beautiful sight with shades of red, orange and violet painted across the sky.

There are no excursions planned so you can enjoy Lovina at your own pace. You can head into Singaraja, which is the main town in the area, just 9 km from the hotel. This is one of the few places in Bali where you will find buildings from the Dutch colonial era. Not many tourists come here, so you can enjoy an authentic experience in the streets, several of which are adorned with avenues of trees.

Today, you will be leaving northern Bali. After breakfast and check-out, you will join your guide and driver and head to the artisan town of Ubud.

We have included three beautiful and exciting visits en route to Ubud. The first stop is Beji Temple in the village of Sangsit. The temple is not overrun by tourists and it is peaceful and incredibly beautiful here. The temple’s impressive craftsmanship and detailed carvings almost take your breath away. Dating back to the 15th century, the sumptuous temple is dedicated to the fertility goddess Dewi Sri, who ensured a good harvest.

The next stop is the vantage point in the Kintamani Highlands which affords a fabulous view of the Batur crater lake and the 1,717-metre-high active volcano of the same name, which last erupted violently in 1963.

Before reaching Ubud, you visit the Gunung Kawi temple complex, an often  overlooked attraction. Built in the late 11th century, Gunung Kawi is one of Bali’s oldest temples. Gunung Kawi is set in a valley surrounded by lush jungle, and stairs take you past magnificent rice terraces and tall coconut trees down to the temple itself. The Pakerisan River, which has religious significance for Balinese Hindus, flows alongside the temple. Water passing through a sanctuary is said to be transformed into holy water. When you get to the river, you have to cross a small stone bridge to get to the main attraction of the temple: the ancient royal tombs carved into the rocks. Here, you have time to walk around and enjoy the ancient, serene site.

The last stop of the day is the hotel in Ubud, and after check-in, the rest of the day is yours to do as you please.

Ubud is scenically situated in the central highlands, where the lush, green mountains are interspersed by deep valleys, which are almost canyon-like in some places. In the middle of the green jungle flows the Ayung River, which is made for river rafting, and behind the settlements, you will catch glimpses of lovely little temples and scenic rice fields.

Ubud is also known as the artistic heart of Bali, to which both local and international artists and craftsmen have found their way. The town is full of galleries and exhibitions of art and crafts, as well as lovely shops selling jewellery, clothes and bags.

There are often ceremonial processions in the temples and streets, which are a fun and evocative experience. Lining the pavements are small baskets woven from banana leaves containing offerings and incense sticks to protect against evil.

Ubud also has many good restaurants, bars and cosy cafés.

Outside the town centre, a whole new world of calm and traditional little villages opens up.

Today, you’ll gain an excellent insight into the Balinese culture and traditions in the small village of Rumah Desa, located 35 km north-west of Ubud. You will have the opportunity to participate in some of the daily activities that take place in the village.

After breakfast, you’ll be picked up from the hotel and driven to the village of Rumah Desa, where you’ll be met by a local host who will show you around. You’ll see and hear how the families live, cook, build houses and farm, and if you’re game, you’ll have the chance to participate in the activities yourself. There will also be a walk through the village, taking in its small houses, temples, the local school and a beautiful landscape with exotic plants and trees. You will also pass the stunning green rice fields, where you’ll see the farmers at work with their water buffaloes, and observe how the coconut palms are climbed and how the coconut oil is extracted.

Back at the village, a lovely Balinese lunch will be served. You will then head back to Ubud, where you arrive mid-afternoon and have the rest of the day to yourself.

Today, you’re going on a lovely, exciting excursion around Ubud.

You’ll be picked up from the hotel by your guide and driver, and head to the amazing rice terraces of Tegalalang, some of the most scenic on the island.

The tour rounds off in Tampaksiring, where you will visit the sacred water temple and the national cultural treasure, Tirta Empul, located by 12 sacred springs. You can bathe in the holy water and cleanse your soul, alongside the Balinese, who bring offerings in the form of small baskets of flowers and incense. It’s a beautiful, colourful sight. Please note that during your visit to the temple, you will have to wear a sarong just as in all other temples in Bali.

You’ll then be driven back to the hotel and the rest of the day is yours to do as you please.

In the evening when darkness falls, you can sit at one of the town’s cafés and enjoy a cup of coffee or visit one of the many great restaurants.

After breakfast and check-out, your guide and driver pick you up from the hotel. Together, you drive to beautiful Sanur, which is located in south-eastern Bali.

Sanur is a popular holiday resort that has managed to maintain its cosy, chilled atmosphere, unlike the lively resort of Kuta, which is a good 30-minute drive from Sanur.

The town’s big draw is its 5 km long, wide, golden sandy beach, known for its calm water and gentle waves. The beach is protected by a coral reef, making it incredibly child friendly as the waves break quite a way out. Running along the beach is the beach promenade, which is ideal for walks and jogging. There are also small shops along here selling wooden crafts, clothes and other souvenirs.

On the town’s main street, you will find shops, cosy cafés and restaurants. If you leave the main street and walk down the small side streets, you can experience local life and small houses standing side by side with the town’s lovely temples.

In the evening, you can enjoy the sunset from the beach, where palm trees, the small pavilion and the many local fishing boats form the perfect backdrop.

The days in Sanur are yours to do as you please.

After an exciting and adventurous tour, you may feel the need to relax and do absolutely nothing – besides enjoying the sun’s rays and lazing on a sun lounger. If you have sore muscles, you might like to treat yourself to a traditional Balinese massage.

You also have the option to snorkel along the coral reef or try the various water sports activities.

Today, the time has come to say goodbye to breathtaking Bali. After check-out, you will be picked up from your hotel and driven to the airport in Denpasar, from where you head back to Europe, with connecting flight(s) on the way.
