Cuba is unique.
When you visit Cuba, you will soon get the feeling of having arrived somewhere where time has stood still in many ways.
You will discover a fascinating country, where the local stores have yet to be replaced by the big chain stores, and where classic, old American cars from the 1960s still fill the streets.
And what a lot there is there to experience!
We’ve selected five of our favourite experiences for you, which you will enjoy on one of our tours to Cuba.
If you are in the old town of Havana, a visit to the historic bar La Bodeguita del Medio, which claims to be the birthplace of the mojito, is a must.
Since it opened more than 70 years ago, the bar has attracted several historic personalities, including Ernest Hemingway, Fidel Castro and Harry Belafonte, all of whom have enjoyed a drink in the bar’s lounge.
Many people believe that Cubans make the world’s best cigars. Cigar production is therefore also one of Cuba’s biggest attractions, which must not be missed on your tour to Cuba.
While many of the island’s cigar factories are located in Havana, the majority of tobacco plants are grown in the Viñales Valley, where you can visit a local tobacco plantation that cultivates the world-famous tobacco.
If you want to buy Cuban cigars, you can do so all over Cuba. As with much else in Cuba, the state determines the cost of tobacco.
Take a lesson in Cuban salsa and learn to dance to the seductive rhythms. The Cuban salsa is a big part of Cuban culture, which can be experienced at bars, cafés and on street corners.
Whether you are a good dancer or not, it’s a fun and entertaining experience to learn more about the Cuban salsa from a qualified teacher who provides an insight into the wonderful dance.
On the coast in Varadero, you will discover some of Cuba’s best sandy beaches, with crystal clear waters, swaying palms and exotic surroundings.
If you are into activities in the water, the area also offers great opportunities for water sports, such as surfing, snorkelling and jet skiing.
The best way to learn about Cuban culture is to stay at a so-called casa particular. A casa particular is a form of private accommodation, where you lodge with a Cuban family who have devoted part of their home to the purpose.
At a casa particular, you enjoy the same service as you would at a hotel, but you also gain a unique and different insight into the everyday lives of the Cuban people. You will soon see that the Cubans are a happy and hospitable people, who will gladly help you with any questions you may have on your holiday.
