Pousada Pequi is situated in the southern Pantanal and, like most lodges in Pantanal, it’s a ‘working farm’ with both cows and horses, managed by a local family.
The lodge has just 10 rooms and the atmosphere is cosy and informal. Each room comes with a private bathroom, air conditioning, a ceiling fan, a TV, and a minibar. Wi-Fi is available in the rooms, though it can be a bit unstable. However, you’ll find reliable Wi-Fi in the lodge’s restaurant and reception.
All meals are included in your stay and are served buffet-style in the small restaurant, featuring various dishes prepared with fresh, regional ingredients. Beverages are at your own expense.
In the mornings and afternoons, when the temperature is lowest and the animals are most active, various excursions are organised – whether in a 4×4, on foot, on horseback, or by boat on the river. All tours are accompanied by an experienced local guide who knows the area well and can lead you to the best spots for wildlife viewing.
During the middle of the day, there’s a siesta back at the lodge, allowing you to enjoy a nap or unwind by the small swimming pool in the garden. You might be lucky enough to see vividly coloured hyacinth macaws or toucans flying overhead, or perhaps a hummingbird gathering nectar from a beautiful flower in the garden. Wildlife is not just something you encounter on planned excursions – it’s a constant presence around you.
Staying at a pousada in Pantanal is an unforgettable experience. It offers you the chance not only to explore the spectacular wildlife and unique landscapes of Pantanal but also to gain a remarkable insight into the everyday life of those who live in harmony with this magnificent nature.
