Tijuca National Park and hike to Pedra Bonita (half-day excursion)
Come on a hike in the lush rainforest Tijuca National Park, located in the heart of Rio de Janeiro. One of the world’s largest city parks, it offers beautiful waterfalls, tropical flora and fauna and breathtaking views.
Today’s destination is the vantage point, Pedra Bonita, which is located at an altitude of 696 metres. Accompanied by your guide, you’ll walk to the top along small hiking trails. Along the way, you’ll gain a fascinating insight into Rio’s history, and you may be lucky enough to see monkeys, coati and exotic birds such as toucans en route. From the top of Pedra Bonita, you will be rewarded with an indescribably beautiful view of Rio’s stunning beaches, Ipanema and Leblon, and the rock formation, Dois Irmãos. You’ll also see the majestic monolith, Pedra da Gávea.
The tour also includes a visit to another part of the park, where you make a stop at Vista Chinesa, a vantage point with a Chinese-inspired pavilion, from which you get a nice panoramic view of the Sugar Loaf and Mount Corcovado with the famous Christ the Redeemer statue.
Remember to bring a backpack for lunch, water (preferably 1.5-2 litres), sunscreen and mosquito repellent. We recommend that you wear a sun hat, sportswear and trainers or walking shoes (no sandals) as this is a hike in hilly terrain.
Lunch is at your own expense. A stop will be made at a supermarket in the morning, where you can buy a sandwich, fruit and water to take with you on the hike. Remember to let your guide know if you wish to buy supplies before the tour begins.
