Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Departure from chosen airport

It is time for you to fly from your chosen airport to the charming city of Siem Reap in Cambodia. There will be stopover(s) en route.

Day 2: Arrival in Siem Reap

You will land in Siem Reap Airport, go through immigration and pick up your luggage. In the arrivals hall, you will meet your guide, who is holding a TourCompass sign. Already here, you will feel the warmth of the welcoming and proud Cambodians. You will be driven to your hotel in central Siem Reap, which is a drive of about an hour and a half.

After arrival and check-in at your hotel, the rest of the day is at your leisure.

Siem Reap is a laid-back and charming city, where you can go for relaxing walks in the French Quarter or under the shady trees along the Siem Reap River. Here, there are small shops, cafés and several markets. You can also explore the Siem Reap Night Market, where the odours from the many Khmer delicacies will make your mouth water. Day 3: Angkor Wat and Tonle Sap Lake

A big day awaits you with one of the world’s great wonders: the magnificent temple complex of Angkor Wat in the ruins of Angkor, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

You will be picked up from the hotel in the morning and driven outside the city (a 15 minutes’ ride), where the major attraction is located. The temple area is quite large, so you will be driven by car over the longer stretches and will be dropped off with the guide so that you can visit all the sights on foot.

The ruins and temples are beautifully situated in an area surrounded by jungle and a moat. Here, it is peaceful, and it is like you have stepped into a completely different world.

The first visit is at one of the main temples, Bayon, where you will encounter an impressive sight with a myriad of smiling Buddha faces. You will then visit the well-known and unique temple, Ta Prohm, which is one of a kind, as large, beautiful trees have taken root in the middle of the temple buildings, so that they appear to have merged.

You will end up at the magnificent temple of Angkor Wat, which is the most well-preserved temple in Cambodia. Few people remain unimpressed by this spectacular temple, which rises in three levels and is crowned by five towers shaped like the buds of the lotus flower. In the temple’s inner courtyards and vaulted passageways, you can admire the endless friezes and stunning carvings. From the upper level of the temple, you have a fantastic view of the area.

After this memorable visit, you will be driven to a local restaurant in Siem Reap, where you will have lunch.

The tour continues to Tonle Sap Lake, where you will be sailed to one of the many fishing villages along the lake, either Kompong Khleang (between August and early February) or Chong Khneas (between mid-February and July). Here you will learn more about how life is lived for the many families who primarily make a living from fishing. The families live in the characteristic colourful houses that stand on long stilts so that they can cope with the high water levels during the rainy season, when the narrow streets of the village are transformed into small canals. During the dry season, when the water level is low, there is a clear view of the long stilts.

You will then be driven back to your hotel, where the rest of the day is at your leisure.

Accommodation:
Day 4: Siem Reap on your own

The day is at your leisure for relaxing by the pool, exploring the city or buying one of our exciting extra excursions as an add-on.

If you choose to explore the city, you can, for example, visit the small park Royal Gardens. Or how about a stroll in the charming side streets of the city, where you can come across small temples with gold roofs and the finest gardens? You can also take a seat at one of the many cosy cafés and restaurants along the river and watch life in the city.

In the evening, you can visit vibrant Pub Street, which, with its wealth of restaurants and bars, is a natural gathering point.

Day 5: Flight from Siem Reap to Luang Prabang

You will be picked up at the hotel and driven to the airport to continue your tour to Luang Prabang in Laos. Luang Prabang is one of Indochina’s most beautiful gems.

The city is a unique blend of traditional Laotian architecture with the addition of French colonial charm, which is one of the reasons why the city has been included on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. The rhythm of the city is a chapter by itself. Life is lived quietly and with a rarely seen dignity.

The city centre is located on a peninsula at the confluence of the two rivers, Mekong and Nam Khan, and is surrounded by breathtaking scenery with forested mountains, waterfalls and caves. The lush and green elements are repeated everywhere in the city between fine temples and small charming and quiet streets.

Upon arrival in Luang Prabang, you go through immigration. You then collect your luggage and head out into the arrivals hall, where your guide will be waiting for you with a TourCompass sign. After about 15 minutes’ transfer to your hotel in Luang Prabang, the rest of the day is at your leisure. Do not miss out on Luang Prabang’s colourful and lively night market, which is one of the best in Southeast Asia’s best. The market is open every evening from 17:00 to 22:00.

Day 6: A morning in accordance with Buddhism

Today you are participating in doing a good deed in accordance with Buddhism: giving alms. Giving alms is seen as an important religious practice in the Buddhist faith and culture of Laos. For example, you can give gifts to monks, participate in religious ceremonies and help people in need. It is an act of charity and compassion. These deeds are considered to bring good luck and to result in a healthy and happy life of prosperity and spiritual merit both in the present life and in future rebirths.

Today, you will learn how to make traditional Laotian dishes, which are to be given to the local monks. You will be picked up from the hotel and driven to the Phosy market, where, along with your guide, you will meet a local family. Together, you will buy groceries for the day’s cooking, including fish, vegetables and fruit. After the shopping for groceries, you will go with the local family to their home, where you will learn how to make the traditional dishes. Among other dishes, you will help make sticky rice (khao niew), bamboo shoot soup (Keang Nor Mai), steamed fish in banana leaves (Mok Pa), Luang Prabang stew (Ork Lamb) and eggplant sauce (Jeo Mak Kheua). When the dishes are ready, you will go to the nearby temple. Here, your guide and the family will guide you through the entire ceremony, in which you give alms and receive a blessing from the monks. After the ceremony, you say goodbye to the monks and head back to the local family’s house for lunch. This is also an obvious opportunity to learn more about Laotian culture and about what the family’s everyday life typically looks like.

You say goodbye to the family after an exciting experience and are driven back to the hotel, where the rest of the day is at your leisure.

Accommodation:
Day 7: Luang Prabang National Museum – Phousi Mountain – Kuang-Si Waterfall - Sun Bear Reserve

Every morning in the early hours, a very special séance takes place in Luang Prabang. Here, more than 300 monks walk quietly through the streets of the city to collect alms. All families send a representative out on the street with food or beverages, which are distributed in the monks’ collection bins. It is hard not to be moved by the respectful silence and great dignity with which this daily ritual takes place.

Today, you will experience Luang Prabang and its periphery. You will be picked up at the hotel, and the first visit is to the former royal palace, which was built in 1904 during the colonial period for the then King Sisavang Vong. Today, the palace has been converted into a national museum, where you can experience the well-preserved royal chambers, which contain rare religious and cultural objects of art. Here you get a sense of how life was lived among royalty.

The tour continues to Phousi Mountain, which is just 1 km away. Here, 328 steps await you up to the highest point on Phousi Mountain. On the way up, you pass small temples and Buddha statues, where you can stop if you need to catch your breath. Your efforts are fully rewarded when you stand at the top. Here you can enjoy picturesque panoramic views of beautiful Luang Prabang with its rivers, temples and lush landscapes with mountains in the background.

After a lovely lunch, a drive of 30 km south of Luang Prabang to Kuang-Si Waterfall awaits you. Here, perhaps, a refreshing bath is tempting? Surrounded by lush, tropical jungle, Kuang Si Waterfall flows in cascades over three levels down a steep hillside. The longest drop is 60 metres, and, at the lowest level, you can cool off in the turquoise waters of the tranquil pools.

The day ends with a visit to the nearby Sun Bear Reserve. The reserve, run by the organisation Free The Bears, is a sanctuary for the endangered black Malay bears, which are at risk of extinction as their bile is in high demand for the production of medicine. Here you will acquire an exciting insight into the centre’s work with the beautiful bears.

You will be driven back to the hotel in Luang Prabang, where you can enjoy your last evening in Laos before travelling on to Thailand.

Accommodation:
Day 8: Flight from Luang Prabang to Chiang Mai

Your guide will pick you up at your hotel, and you will be driven to the airport, from where you fly to Northern Thailand.

You land in Thailand’s second-largest city, Chiang Mai, which is a city rich in culture, history and beautiful landscapes. The city is located in a valley surrounded by mountains, including Doi Inthanon, the highest mountain in Thailand. Chiang Mai is also the former capital of the old Lanna kingdom, which existed from 1292 to 1775, and you will therefore find that there are many influences from this time around the city.

After landing, you go through immigration and collect your luggage. In the arrivals hall, your guide will be waiting with a TourCompass sign, and you will be driven to your hotel, which is centrally located in Chiang Mai.

After check-in, the rest of the day is at your leisure. Put on your swimwear and take a dip in the hotel pool or head out to explore the city. You can stroll through the charming streets and explore the small local shops and cosy cafés. You can also experience the vibrant city life at one of the city’s markets, where you can taste local delicacies and buy local handicrafts.

In the evening, you can enjoy the sunset along the Ping River, where you will find several good restaurants offering delicious local specialties.

Day 9: Bicycle tour of historic Chiang Mai

Today, an exciting bicycle ride awaits you in historic Chiang Mai – this is a great way to experience the city. Much of the route takes place in the shade, so you will even feel the wind in your hair.

You will be driven to our partner’s office, where you will be supplied with a bicycle and bicycle helmet. After a quick briefing, it’s time to pedal off and experience the charm of the city. The route is easy and flat, so it is suitable for most. You cycle through Chiang Mai’s small and quiet streets to the fine temple Wat Inthakhin Sadue Mueang, known for its 700-year-old, white Buddha statue. The bike ride continues past the Three Kings monument to the city gate, Tha Phae Gate, which was where vendors brought goods into the city in the old days. Here, the guide will tell you more about Chiang Mai as a former trading centre. You continue to the nearby market Somphet, where you will have time to walk around and take in the atmosphere. You will also have the opportunity to taste the colourful fruits and sweets. After this, Wat Chiang Man awaits you, which is Chiang Mai’s oldest temple. This is where the 1,800-year-old crystal Buddha and the 2,500-year-old marble Buddha are kept. Finally, you will visit the city’s largest and iconic monument, Wat Chedi Luang, which was once home to the Emerald Buddha, but which is now well preserved in the Temple of the Emerald Buddha or Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok.

After a 3-4-hour bicycle ride, a well-deserved lunch awaits you. Lunch consists of the dish khao soi, a spicy noodle soup and a speciality of northern Thailand. Lunch is served at the restaurant Naree De Klang Vieng, which is run by inmates from the women’s prison Klang Vieng. Thanks to the prison’s excellent rehabilitation project, the women, who have typically been convicted of selling or producing drugs, have the opportunity to train in various service professions that will prepare them for a new life outside the prison walls. The food and service are second to none!

You will then cycle the short way back to where the tour started, and from here you will be driven back to your hotel, where you have the rest of the day at your leisure.

Day 12: Flight from Chiang Mai to Bangkok – Street food tour by tuk tuk

You will be driven to the airport, from where you will fly to Bangkok – a flight of just under an hour and a half.

On arrival, you collect your luggage, and your guide will be waiting for you out in the arrivals hall with a TourCompass sign. From here, you will be driven to your hotel in central Bangkok.

In the late afternoon, you will be picked up at your hotel and driven to the starting point for the evening’s excursion. Here, a tuk tuk is waiting to drive you around Bangkok’s vibrant streets to some of the city’s hidden eateries. Along the way, you will catch a glimpse of Bangkok’s popular landmarks, which are beautifully lit in the evening. You will, for example, see the Monument of Democracy, which marks Thailand’s abolition of absolute monarchy and the introduction of constitutional monarchy. The monument is located on the busy Avenue Ratchadamnoen – not far from the Royal Palace, the Grand Palace.

You will arrive at a popular Pad Thai restaurant classified as a Bib Gourmand restaurant. The Bib Gourmand is an award that the Michelin Guide bestows on restaurants that serve exceptional food at reasonable prices. Here you will be served the tasty national dish on banana leaves, and you can also enter the kitchen and see how it is all done.

Back in the tuk tuk, you continue past the 27-metre-tall Giant Swing, which is a historical and cultural landmark at the Wat Suthat Thepwararam temple. The next stop is a local night market, where you will have time to browse around the many stalls. Here you will learn about local delicacies, e.g. braised pork leg (khao kha mu), coconut pudding and sticky rice with egg (bua loi khai waan).

The tour continues to Thailand’s largest flower market, Pak Klong Talat, which is only open in the evening. Here you will stroll past the many flower stalls and have the opportunity to fold your own lotus flower, which is of great importance to Buddhists in particular.

At the next stop, you will learn about Thai wedding traditions when you visit a patisserie specialising precisely in wedding cakes.

The evening ends at a relaxed rooftop bar located at the Chao Phraya River with views of the illuminated Wat Arun temple. The view does not get much better than that!

After a lovely evening, you will be driven back to the hotel.

Day 13: Bangkok on your own

You wake up in Thailand’s vibrant, colourful and fascinating capital, Bangkok, which counts just over 12 million inhabitants.

There are no scheduled excursions today, so you can enjoy the day at your own pace. There is also the opportunity to go on one of our exciting optional excursions, which you can read more about below.

When moving around Bangkok, you do not have to worry about the traffic, because several different means of transport are available for exploring the city. Many people use tuk tuks, but the river taxis are also popular, and they account for a significant part of public transport as they dock at many of the city’s major attractions. In addition, there is the Bangkok Mass Transit System, or BTS Skytrain, which winds between the city’s high-rise buildings, and which is a good, fast and cheap way to get around.

Bangkok is divided into east and west by the 372 km long Chao Phraya River. The eastern part of the city is regarded as central Bangkok, with the popular areas of Silom, Sukhumvit and Chinatown having a high concentration of shopping malls, local markets and good eateries. On the eastern side, you will also find the historic part of Bangkok, which is home to, for example, the grand royal palace, the Grand Palace, and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, Wat Phra Kaew.

After exploring Bangkok inside out in the tropical heat and busy traffic, there will probably be moments when you dream of greener and quieter places. Here, you should also visit the parks Lumpini or Benjakiti. You can also choose to cross over to the other side of the Chao Phraya River to the west side of Bangkok, where you will find a completely different world without skyscrapers and honking tuk tuks. Here you will encounter a labyrinth of canals where houses stand on stilts and postmen deliver the mail sailing.

In the evening, it is almost a must to visit one of the city’s sky bars, which are an ideal venue for having a cold drink and enjoying the sunset. You can also visit the neon-lit Chinatown or the Asiatique The Riverfront shopping area, which, in addition to shops, also has a variety of restaurants and entertainment venues.

No matter what you decide to do, we guarantee that you will not have a dull moment.

Day 14: Departure day

Today, your tour has come to an end. You will be picked up at the hotel and driven to the airport, from where you fly to Europe with connecting flight(s) along the way.

Day 15: Arrival back home

You will land at your chosen airport after a fantastic tour, bringing back home with you lots of new experiences.

Beach holiday extension to Khao Lak
3 nights

If you are looking for a quiet holiday paradise without interruptions, you should choose Khao Lak, which is synonymous with tranquillity and adventure. Khao Lak is located just under 100 km north of Phuket, but the atmosphere and life in Khao Lak means that it is like entering a completely different world. It is quiet and more authentic, and yet you have everything you could possibly want – from beautiful scenery to good restaurants.

Khao Lak consists of several interconnected beach areas that together make up this lovely, relaxing holiday paradise with turquoise sea on one side and lush, unspoiled rainforest on the other.

The days in Khao Lak are at your leisure, and it is entirely up to you how you want to spend them. Put on your swimsuit and find your favourite spot on the honey-coloured sand.

In addition to lazing on the beautiful beaches, we also highly recommend a snorkelling trip to either the Surin Islands or the Similan Islands, which have some of the best spots in Thailand for snorkelling and diving. Both places are designated as national parks, and boast impressive marine life with brightly coloured fish, whale sharks, sea turtles and rays as well as untouched nature, chalk-white beaches and crystal-clear water. Read more about the excursions below.

In the evening, head into Khao Lak and explore the wide variety of restaurants and shops.

Beach holiday extension in Krabi
3 nights

Krabi offers a wealth of activities and beautiful beaches, all of which have views of the many limestone cliffs and small islands that characterise the province.

As standard, you stay at the Tub Kaek beach, which is known for its stunning sunsets over the Andaman Sea as well as its untouched beauty and tranquil atmosphere, making it an ideal base for peace and relaxation. The range of restaurants is small but good.

You can also choose to stay in Ao Nang, which is about 20 minutes away. Ao Nang is for travellers who prefer more life and a wider range of restaurants and activities. The long main street stretches for several kilometres with a wealth of international restaurants and eateries with a focus on local Thai cuisine. You will find both the quiet Nopphara Thara beach, which is perfect for sunset strolls, and the Ao Nang beach, where you can swim during the day.

Other beaches worth visiting during your stay in Krabi are Railay Beach, Phra Nang Beach and Tonsai Beach, which attract visitors from all over the world with its white sand, crystal-clear waters and impressive rock formations. Off Krabi are also some of Thailand’s most beautiful islands, including the Phi Phi Islands, Hong Island and many more.

In addition to beach experiences, you have the opportunity to explore Krabi’s fantastic nature at the kayaking paradise of Ao Thalane. Or how about a trip through lush jungle and small streams to the nearby mountain Khao Ngon Nak, where you are rewarded with unforgettable views of the area?

Here in the Krabi province, you also have the opportunity to experience Thai culture characterised by two religions. Here, Buddhists and Muslims live peacefully side by side, and the multicultural society is especially expressed in the local cuisine and in the range of cultural experiences.

See our range of extra excursions below.

Beach holiday extension on Phuket
3 nights

Phuket is Thailand’s no. 1 beach holiday destination and also the country’s largest island. Phuket is especially known for its vibrant atmosphere and its 30 splendid beaches.

As standard, you will stay at Kata Beach, which is located on the southwest coast of Phuket, and which is one of the most well-known beaches on the entire island. Kata Beach actually consists of two beaches: Kata Yai, the ‘big’ beach, and Kata Noi, the ‘small’ beach. Both beaches have fine, golden sand, shady trees and palms. The waters are clear and calm and relatively shallow, which is ideal for both children and adults. Kata Beach is a lot quieter than lively Patong, but it still has plenty of good restaurants, cosy bars and shops.

Just over 20 km north of Kata Beach is Kamala Beach, which consists of a nearly 2 km long sandy beach with fine sand and calm bathing water. Kamala Beach is the epitome of pure relaxation where life gently unfolds. The area is not overcrowded, which creates a very tranquil feel – especially at the northern end where there are only a few hotels and lots of space on the beach. At the southern end of the beach lies the town of Kamala. There are no neon signs and noisy city life here, but good restaurants and friendly cafés which, as one of the few places on Phuket, are located right down to the beach.

On Phuket, it is tempting to spend your days lazing on the golden beaches and swimming in the warm sea. However, if you nevertheless feel like an adventure, Phuket has a lot to offer with its outstanding nature and cultural experiences. Our optional excursions are listed below.

Beach holiday extension on Koh Samui
3 nights

Extend your tour with a wonderful beach holiday on Koh Samui, which is Thailand’s second largest island and known for its good sandy beaches, cosy atmosphere, historic temples and lush nature with breathtaking waterfalls.

As standard, you will stay on the north coast of Koh Samui at the quiet and idyllic beach town of Mae Nam, which offers a tranquil and peaceful atmosphere with a fine honey-coloured beach. The beach is not very wide, but the waters are calm and pleasantly warm. Mae Nam is next door to Bophut, which is known for its beautiful bay with golden sandy beaches and calm waters. This is also where you will find Fisherman’s Village – a charming area with a wealth of small shops with local arts and crafts, bars and, not least, delicious restaurants.

If you are more into city life, you should go to Chaweng, located about 15 km from Mae Nam. Here the selection is larger, and the pace is faster. The main street offers a wealth of restaurants, cafés, shops and bars. But also, on the beach at Chaweng Beach, there is a lively atmosphere in the evening, when restaurants set the tables for dinner under the open sky.

The days are at your leisure, so it is entirely up to you what you want to do. Perhaps you just want to laze around at the hotel’s beach with a good book or explore the attractions of the island? If you are looking for adventure, we highly recommend a boat trip to the postcard-like Ang Thong Marine National Park. Or how about an enchanting visit to the world-famous islands of Koh Tao and Koh Nang Yuan, known for their incredible visibility and colourful underwater wildlife?
