Bike ride – rice fields, local life and Moon Hill
You will be picked up from the hotel and walk to the start line of today’s bike ride. Once the bikes have been adjusted and you have been given a bicycle helmet, the bike ride starts, proceeding at a gentle pace over a flat stretch.
Yangshuo is a cycling paradise, offering good village trails that lead you through some of the most stunning landscapes in southern China.
You cycle along the Yulong River, a tributary of the great Li River, which flows from Guilin to Yangshuo. The ride takes you past rice fields, vegetable fields and through charming little village communities, providing insight into the everyday lives of the farmers. Along the roads, there are a couple of local women selling lovely, handmade flower wreaths, while industrious men work in the fields. You might even be lucky enough to see them ploughing with the help of a water buffalo.
There is time for short stops along the way, when you can take pictures and admire the large limestone rocks, which are reflected in the river and cast shade onto some of the fields.
At lunchtime, you arrive at one of Yangshuo’s highlights: the distinctive rock Moon Hill, named after its moon-shaped hole at the top.
At the rock, you eat lunch at a local, family-run restaurant.
In clear, dry weather, you can choose to climb the rock, up the 800 or so steps. It’s a tough climb, but you are rewarded with the most amazing panoramic views of the entire area.
You then cycle back to the starting point via the village of Xie.
You are back at the hotel in the afternoon.
Distance: Approx. 25 km
