The trek to the Lost City takes you through the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta National Park. It’s a protected area, also recognised as Colombian cultural heritage. Many of the region’s indigenous people still reside here in small villages, preserving their ancient customs and way of life. The camps where you’ll stay overnight are owned and operated by the local community, contributing positively to the economic development of the area.
You’ll spend the nights in 3 different jungle camps on the journey to and from the Lost City. The camps are quite basic, with shared toilet and washing facilities. They accommodate around 50 people and are shared with multiple groups, so remember to bring earplugs. Accommodation is in bunk beds or hammocks with mosquito nets. Sheets and blankets are provided in the camps, but we recommend bringing your own sleeping bag liner. Night-time temperatures can drop to 18-22 degrees Celsius. The beds are sheltered under a canopy, so they are protected from the rain.
Wi-Fi can be purchased in the camps, however, it can be somewhat unstable. It costs approximately 2-3 USD per day to use.
You can refill your water bottle in the morning before leaving the camp, but note that the water provided is boiled and purified from the river. If you prefer otherwise, bottled water is available for purchase (around 2-3 USD). It’s also possible to buy some snacks and other beverages in the camps.
