Don Juan coffee plantation (afternoon)

On this tour, you get three exciting experiences in one: You visit a coffee plantation where you learn about the production of the world-famous Costa Rican coffee, the production of the delicious chocolate and about how sugar cane is made for sugar cane juice, etc. Naturally, you will get to sample all three things.

You will be picked up from your hotel and driven to the Don Juan coffee plantation, located just outside Monteverde. At the plantation, the guides will tell you the history behind the popular Costa Rican coffee and about the importance of coffee to Costa Rica. You will also learn about the processes involved in the coffee production, right from the sowing of the coffee plant’s seeds to the roasting of the mature coffee beans, which can be brewed to make a delicious cup of coffee you can taste.

Next, the guides will tell you the story of the exquisite cocoa at the plantation, and you will learn how the cocoa beans are grown and processed so that they can be transformed into chocolate and pure cocoa powder, which can be used to make chocolate milk, etc. You will also have the opportunity to take part in the production and taste the chocolate.

Finally, you will learn about the history of the sugar cane, and the guides will show you how the sugar cane is crushed to be made into cane sugar and numerous other sweet products, and you can have a go at making handmade sugar cane juice.

There is also a souvenir shop at the plantation, where you can buy some of the delicious products before heading back to the hotel.
