Ikala Galapagos Hotel is a small oasis in Puerto Ayora for those looking for a little more comfort and pampering during their stay in the cosy town.
The hotel has 22 modern, light and airy rooms (6 standard rooms and 16 suites with their own balcony), all with an ensuite bathroom with toiletries, Wi-Fi, air conditioning, silent fans, a flat screen TV with satellite channels, a safe and comfortable beds made for a good night’s sleep after a day full of experiences.
In the hotel’s courtyard, there is a small pool where you can enjoy a refreshing dip and relax on a sun lounger. You’ll also find the pool bar here, where you can buy cool drinks and light meals.
A nice little detail at the hotel is that some of the original trees on the grounds were preserved when it was built. The trees add to the cosiness of the small courtyard and offer shade from the strong sun.
The hotel’s La Terraza restaurant is located on the roof of the hotel, with a wonderful view of the cosy harbour and the surrounding landscape. Enjoy your breakfast (included) in the fresh morning breeze. On certain days, it’s also possible to have dinner up here.
The hotel enjoys a unique location in Puerto Ayora, close to both the town and the scenic countryside. A few minutes’ walk from the hotel is Laguna de las Ninfas, where you can spot various birds and, with a little luck, rays, small sharks and baby turtles. The town’s busy pier, and the cosy restaurants, cafés and small shops of the main street Avenida Charles Darwin, are also just a few minutes’ walk from the hotel.
The hotel also offers free bicycles, which you can use to get around the town.
This hotel has a strong focus on sustainability and uses solar energy, rainwater collection and waste sorting, among other things. They also support various projects in the local community, including Galapagos Special Education Center, which contributes to the preservation of the environment.
