Mindo’s cloud forest, hummingbirds and chocolate

Less than a two-hour drive from Quito is the cosy town of Mindo, situated in the midst of a fairy-tale 500 km2 cloud forest. The lush area is home to diverse flora and fauna, with more than 500 bird species registered here.

In Mindo, you will visit a butterfly farm and hummingbird garden, where you can see the many beautiful species that live in the area.

You will also visit a chocolate factory, where you see the chocolate production from cocoa bean to finished product. It goes without saying that you get to sample the delicious homemade chocolate, which the area is famous for.

Lunch can be enjoyed (at your own expense) at one of Mindo’s cosy little restaurants and cafés, before heading back to Quito in the afternoon through the scenic mountainous landscape.

Remember to bring: Good shoes, a rain jacket, a warm jumper for the afternoon, a sun hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.
