On horseback in the Andes Mountains
A popular activity in this area is a horseback ride in the wonderful Andes landscape.
Before departing, you get a short introduction on how to control your horse. Like a true cowboy, you are equipped with a riding helmet, warm riding trousers and a poncho, and you are ready to jump in the saddle.
The horse handles the tough work up the mountainside on the extinct volcano Rumiñahui, letting you quietly admire the magnificent nature. You are surrounded by high mountains and volcanoes, and in clear weather, there is an indescribable view of the snow-capped volcano Cotopaxi.
The tour is led by a skilled Chagra, which is the name of an Andes cowboy in this area. He only speaks Spanish, but the introduction to riding before you leave is given in English by the reception staff, so knowledge of Spanish is not required. Riding experience is not required, either.
Remember to bring: Warm clothes, sun hat, sunglasses, sunblock and rain clothes, if necessary.
