Good tours to Africa with children:

Why should you go on safari in Africa with children?

Just because you have children, there is no reason to stop travelling. You just have to take some other things into consideration when planning your tour.

Our family safari packages in Africa offer unique experiences for both children and adults.

Three reasons why you should go on a family safari in Africa

There are many good reasons to travel with your children. The following may provide some food for thought when considering a family safari in Africa.

1) Give the whole family an experience for life

When you take the whole family on safari, you will be providing them with memorable experiences that last a lifetime. It can bring your family closer together, and a trip to the savannah with your children is something they (and you) will never forget.

2) Teach your children about other places in the world

When your children are young, their worldview will sometimes be restricted to their immediate surroundings.

If you take them on a family-friendly safari, they will learn about other climates, animals and cultures which can promote their development and worldview.

3) Travel with the whole family while you can

Children grow up so quickly, and before you know it, they have flown the nest.

When you take the whole family on a safari, it helps to create a unique sense of togetherness and many shared experiences.

What makes a safari child-friendly?

When travelling with your children, it is important to think about the length of the tour, driving distances, and whether there are experiences for the whole family.

Our ‘family safaris’ are tours planned with the family in mind.

On these tours, we take the following into account:

  • Child/family-friendly hotels, resorts and lodges
  • Shorter driving distances and fewer accommodation changes
  • Experiences and activities for all the family

How old do you have to be to go on safari?

In theory, there are no age restrictions on going on safari in Africa. But there is a big difference between whether you are travelling with toddlers or teenagers. Here, it is about what you and your children are used to.

In addition to our family safari, most of our safari trips are possible with children. However, you should be aware that there may be age restrictions on excursions and hotels. For further details, look at the individual tours.

When travelling with older children, they will usually appreciate the same experiences as the adults, so you can certainly choose from several of our tours.

However, when you go on safari in Africa with young children, it is a good idea to pay some attention to the choice of tour.
Therefore, consider the following:

Does the tour involve travelling long distances?

On some tours, it is necessary to travel long distances by car or bus between the sights and safari destinations. Therefore, consider a family or fly-in safari, where there is less transport or where you fly to the safari parks.

How long is the safari?

A distinction is usually made between full-day and half-day safaris.

If you know that your children are not up to a full day in the car, it is a good idea to choose a half-day safari, whereas older children will usually appreciate a full-day safari more.

Can I get a private safari car?

A private safari car can be a more expensive option, depending on the destination, but if you have young children, you may appreciate the flexibility. With a private safari car, it is usually possible to stop early if necessary.

On our family safari, a private car with a driver is included.

Should I go on a malaria-free safari?

If you are pregnant or travelling with very young children, it may be a good idea to travel to a malaria-free safari destination.

One option is our malaria-free safari, which takes place in the Kariega Game Reserve in southern South Africa.

Which safari package is right for you?

When choosing your safari package, there are several things to consider: Do you want to end your tour with a beach holiday? Is there a particular national park you would like to visit? Any specific animals? How much time do you have available?

We offer safari holidays in Africa to different destinations, with different programmes and of varying duration. You can read about what you can expect to see under each tour.

Whichever tour suits your family best, we are so bold as to guarantee that you will return home with some unforgettable experiences that will last a lifetime.

Combine your family safari with a beach holiday

Many of our tours can be combined with other destinations, so you can extend your tour with, for example, a beach holiday in Zanzibar or other fantastic experiences.

You will find all the combination options under each tour if you are not quite ready to return home from your safari.
