Adventure and relaxation ahead. First, five days of classic Kenya safari await you with the greatest highlights before the tour continues by train to a beach holiday at Mombasa with views of the Indian Ocean.
Both adventure and relaxation await you on this tour. You are going on safari in one of Kenya’s smallest national parks, Amboseli, where you have a beautiful view of snow-capped Kilimanjaro. The park is especially famous for its large herds of elephants.
In Nairobi, you have the opportunity to customise your tour before travelling on to the stunning scenery of the Great Rift Valley and Lake Naivasha – known for its hippos and varied bird life.
In the world-famous Masai Mara National Park, you have the chance to get right up close to the Big 5 and all manner of prey. There is also the opportunity to visit the tall, red-clad Masai in their villages.
After this adventure, it’s time for relaxation in Mombasa, where you can enjoy the white sandy beaches and go for a dip in the azure sea. You can also explore Mombasa and stroll through the narrow streets, smell the spices and gain an insight into the city’s fascinating culture and history.
Today is departure day, and you will be flying to Kenya with connecting flight(s) on the way.
On your arrival in Kenya, you will be met at the airport by our local partner and driven to your hotel.
If you arrive already in the morning, you can choose to purchase one of our excursions as an add-on, so that you can start experiencing Kenya already on your day of arrival.
You may also simply want to relax at the hotel, where there is, of course, a pool.
From the morning, you depart for one of Kenya’s smallest national parks, Amboseli, where you will have lunch on arrival. This afternoon, the first game drive of the tour awaits you – perhaps you will already here get a glimpse of Kilimanjaro.
Amboseli National Park might be one of Kenya’s smallest, but great experiences await you here. The park is especially famous for its large herds of elephants, many of which have huge tusks. The sight of the elephants with Kilimanjaro in the background is one of the most iconic images of Africa. The sparse vegetation in Amboseli makes it easier to spot the wild animals. If you’re interested in birds, you won’t be disappointed in Amboseli, as parts of the park remain swamp-like all year round. You have a packed lunch with you today, which allows you to spend the whole day in the park.
Say good morning to the view towards Kilimanjaro. After breakfast, you will head back towards Nairobi, where a lunch stop is made, before the tour continues through the hilly landscape around Great Rift Valley to Lake Naivasha.
Along the way, you will make a stop at a belvedere, from which (on a clear day!) there are phenomenal views of the spectacular Great Rift Valley, which stretches all the way through the African continent from the Middle East to Mozambique.
You will arrive at Lake Naivasha in the afternoon, and you can spend the rest of the day enjoying the lodge and the tranquil natural surroundings by the lake.
Lake Naivasha, which is a freshwater lake, is located at the highest point of Great Rift Valley at 1890 metres above sea level. A boat trip on the lake is one of the big highlights – and that is exactly how you will start your morning. The area is known for hippos, giraffes, waterbucks, velvet monkeys and a rich and varied bird life with both resident and migratory birds.
Past noon, the tour heads towards Masai Mara. It is a long drive, but it gives you a really good insight into how life is lived in rural Kenya. Lean back in your seat and enjoy the landscapes and villages that whizz past the windows. Remember that the car is equipped with both Wi-Fi and electricity, which means that you can share holiday photos with those at home.
You will first drive past the ancient volcano Longnot. From here, you will turn westwards and head into Maasai country. Along the way, you will see lots of men dressed in the festive red plaid. The Maasai have no tradition for cultivating the land, but they have cattle that graze among giraffes, zebras and other herbivores of the savannah.
Depending on the time and traffic, there will be a short stop in Narok, the capital of the Maasai. The villages outside the windows are gradually replaced by more and more wildlife, and you know that Masai Mara is just around the corner.
There will be an opportunity to visit a Maasai village during the drive. You must agree this with your guide. It costs USD 25 per person (not included in the tour price), payable directly to the Maasai.
The entire day is devoted to a game drive in Masai Mara game reserve. You will often be given a packed lunch to eat along the way, allowing you to make the most of your time. It’s impossible to say what you’ll see on a game drive, but we almost dare to guarantee large herds of elephants, wildebeest, zebras, hippos, gazelles and buffaloes. And with prey come the predators: lions, hyenas, cheetahs and leopards. But remember to keep an eye out for the smaller animals. A profusion of birds and colourful lizards are hiding in the bushes.
You will get right up close to a host of animals, which you experience from the protection of the Land Cruiser.
From July to October, you can experience the 1,200 km long migration of more than one million wildebeest along with a couple of hundred thousand zebras plus countless Thomson’s gazelles. It is during this migration that many gazelles fall victim to the huge Nile crocodiles when crossing the Mara River.
After breakfast, it is time to leave the wild nature of Masai Mara and head for Nairobi. After arriving in the capital, you will board the train for Mombasa – a perfect start to a relaxing beach holiday.
The train journey is also an experience in itself. The train is comfortable, and from the windows you may well be fortunate enough to see both elephants and giraffes while driving through Kenya’s largest national park, Tsavo.
On arrival in Mombasa, you will be picked up at the station and driven to your hotel in the seaside resort of Diani Beach south of Mombasa.
Your days in Mombasa are spent at your leisure.
You are picked up at the hotel and driven to the airport, where your journey home starts.
You land in the UK late morning.
