Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge
On the banks of the mighty Kinabatangan River, Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge occupies a stunning location in the amazing rainforest.
Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge almost blends in with its surroundings, and therefore does not stand out in the landscape. However, you will soon realise that the lodge is the perfect base with facilities for what you are really here, i.e. seeing the rainforest’s unique wildlife in close quarters.
You will stay in one of the 33 bungalows, which all feature ceiling fans and a private bathroom with a hot-water shower and eco-friendly toiletries. From your own veranda, you can enjoy the silence and become immersed in the green vegetation that surrounds the lodge.
On the riverbank, you will find the lodge’s viewing platform and bird-watching tower, which offer unobstructed views of the open expanses along the Kinabatangan River, making it the perfect place to scout for the animals that call the rainforest home. It is also possible to follow the short hiking route that runs behind the lodge, where you can hopefully spot even more of the unique animal species, and whom you can read up on in the lodge’s library. There is also a large area of wooden decking which has a lovely pool with plenty of space for a refreshing dip.
Breakfast is enjoyed overlooking the river, while the day’s other meals are served in the lodge’s aptly named restaurant, Orang Utan Corner. Here, you can enjoy your lunch, coffee, and tea during the day as well as local dishes in the evening in a nice informal atmosphere which is conducive to friendly conversations.
