Bicycle ride in Kiulu’s rural surroundings
Are you interested in an authentic experience away from Kota Kinabalu’s busy everyday life? Then join us on this cycling adventure – a perfect way to experience a different side of the Sabah Province.
You will be picked up at your hotel by your guide for the day and driven northeast, where, after an hour or so, you will arrive at the scenic town of Kiulu. Here, you will be introduced to your bicycle, which will be your travel companion for the day, and which will take you on a 10-km adventure along gravel roads and slightly hilly slopes.
From the centre of Kiulu, you will cycle through the quiet village, which is adorned with charming cottages along the roadside, while small roadside stalls tempt passersby with their delicious local products. Along the way, you will cross several suspension bridges, where you can test your balance and enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding landscape.
A stop then awaits you in the small village of Tombung, where a family from the Dusun tribe will welcome you inside their traditional home. Here, you can enjoy light refreshments and explore the surrounding farms with accompanying plantations, giving you a unique insight into the everyday lives of the villagers. You will learn how to extract rubber from the rubber trees on the plantation and experience how rubber tapping is done.
The bicycle ride ends on the banks of the Kiulu River, where you will enjoy a well-deserved lunch to the sound of the turbulent river. After your meal, you can relax and cool off in the clear, flowing river before being driven back to Kota Kinabalu.
