Evening cruise on the Santubong River
Evening cruise on the Santubong River
Prepare yourself for an unforgettable experience among Borneo’s fascinating wildlife on an early evening cruise on the peaceful Santubong River.
In the afternoon, you will be picked up at your hotel and driven about 30 minutes north to the pier at Sarawak Boat Club, where the evening’s magnificent cruise awaits you. Upon arrival, you will board the boat and sail through mangrove-lined rivers and estuaries, while you lean back and enjoy light refreshments as nature unfolds before your very eyes.
Along the way, you may be lucky enough to spot the unique wildlife, including the characteristic proboscis monkeys that thrive in the mangroves at the water’s edge. The Santubong River is also known for being the habitat of the rare Irrawaddy dolphins, which are often seen breaking the surface of the calm waters.
As darkness falls, your boatman will search for fireflies and crocodiles. Sometimes the crocodiles are seen resting on the muddy riverbanks, and their eyes can be glimpsed in the light from the flashlight sweeping across the water. At the same time, the surroundings are transformed into a unique light show, as hundreds of fireflies gather and illuminate the mangrove trees with their twinkling lights – a completely magical sight.
After an enchanting river cruise, you will return to the pier, after which you are driven back to your hotel in Kuching with memories of an evening filled with the magical nature of Borneo.
