Penang Hill: Cable car ride, afternoon tea, and The Habitat
This half-day afternoon tour offers colonial charm and stunning natural experiences.
You’ll be picked up from your hotel and driven to Penang Hill. Here, you’ll embark on a scenic cable car ride up Penang Hill, which is covered in lush rainforest and is one of the most picturesque areas on Penang. Standing at 833 metres above sea level, Penang Hill offers a spectacular view over Georgetown and the island’s lush landscape.
However, Penang Hill is not only known for its beauty, but also for its historical significance. In the 18th century, it was a popular retreat for British colonists seeking refuge from the heat of the lowlands. Many bungalows were constructed at the summit for officials and soldiers, though only a few remain preserved. You’ll visit one of the remaining bungalows, now transformed into the renowned David Brown Restaurant. Here, you will be served a cup of tea, fresh fruit, and delightful small cakes.
The tour concludes at the park, The Habitat, situated on the edge of the protected rainforest areas on Penang Hill. Enjoy a leisurely stroll along the park’s trails, where you can spot rare plants such as the pitcher plant and the ginger plant, zingiber zerumbet. The area is also home to macaques, langurs, and the black giant squirrel, which you might be lucky enough to see. The Habitat also features suspension bridges, spectacular viewpoints, and interactive exhibits.
Before sunset, you’ll be driven back to your hotel.
