Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Flights from your chosen airport to Kuala Lumpur

Today marks the beginning of your long-awaited Malaysian adventure. You will fly from your chosen airport towards Kuala Lumpur with connecting flight(s) along the way.

Day 2: Arrival in Kuala Lumpur

Welcome to Malaysia’s capital, Kuala Lumpur! Upon arrival, proceed through immigration and collect your luggage. In the arrivals hall, your guide will be waiting with a TourCompass sign displaying your name, ready to transport you to your centrally-located hotel in this vibrant metropolis.

After checking in at the hotel, you can enjoy the rest of the day at your own pace, perfect for unwinding after the long flight. Perhaps take a refreshing dip in the hotel pool, or explore the lively city centre and its charming streets.

The most iconic landmark of Kuala Lumpur is the Petronas Twin Towers, which dominate the city’s impressive skyline at 452 metres. At the base of the towers, you’ll find KLCC Park, a lush green oasis providing a welcome breath of fresh air in the heart of the city.

The Malaysian capital is also a shopping paradise. As one of Asia’s leading shopping destinations, Kuala Lumpur offers everything from high-end boutiques to local markets and affordable shopping centres, catering to all tastes and budgets. Shopping areas such as Bukit Bintang, Mid Valley Megamall, The Gardens Mall, Central Market, and Petaling Street attract visitors from around the world.

Kuala Lumpur is a harmonious melting pot of cultures, clearly reflected in the city’s markets and culinary scene, where Malaysian, Chinese, and Indian cuisines unite. Street food stalls and exclusive restaurants provide authentic dining experiences with spicy curries, steaming dim sum, and innovative fusion creations.

The capital’s diverse ethnic groups have made themselves at home in modern skyscrapers, local ethnic neighbourhoods such as Little India and Chinatown, and small villages called ‘kampung.’ Kampung Baru is worth a visit, known for its cosy wooden houses, traditional food stalls, and authentic local atmosphere that contrasts with the surrounding modern buildings and skyscrapers.

In the evening, you can enjoy a drink at one of the city’s many sky bars. Here, you can experience the sunset while taking in Kuala Lumpur’s vibrant evening atmosphere.

Day 3: Half-day city tour of Kuala Lumpur

Today, you’ll embark on an exciting city tour in the centre of Kuala Lumpur to explore its major attractions.

Your guide will collect you from the hotel, and you will be driven to today’s first stop, the lively area known as the ‘Golden Triangle,’ bordered by the main roads Jalan Imbi, Jalan Sultan Ismail, and Jalan Raja Chulan. The Golden Triangle is the city’s premier shopping and entertainment district, and it is here you’ll find KLCC Park and the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, where you’ll have time for a photo stop.

Next, admire the architectural contrast between the Petronas Twin Towers and the Central Market, a cultural marketplace in the heart of the city. Originally built in 1888 as a wet market, it is now one of the city’s most visited markets, providing insight into Malaysian culture and art. Here, you can find crafts like batik, wooden carvings, pottery, and artworks representing Kuala Lumpur’s diverse ethnicities.

The tour will then proceed to the Sultan Abdul Samad Building, a historic and stunning structure situated opposite Merdeka Square. Constructed in Moorish style with arched entrances and a 41.2-metre high clock tower adorned with an elegant copper dome, the building originally housed the British colonial administration. After Malaysia’s independence in 1957, it served as office space for various ministries and courts. Today, it stands as a symbol of Malaysian history and culture and is often used for official ceremonies and events such as Independence Day: Merdeka.

Following this, explore the Royal Palace, the Istana Negara, completed in 2011 and now the official residence of Malaysia’s King. This grand structure blends traditional and modern architectural styles with golden domes and beautifully landscaped gardens, creating a green oasis amidst the city’s hustle and bustle.

Finally, you’ll visit the National Mosque, the Masjid Negara, one of the country’s most significant religious buildings and an example of modern Islamic architecture. Designed by architect Howard Ashley, its most distinctive feature is the star-shaped blue concrete dome, symbolising the five pillars of Islam. The mosque is surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens with reflective pools and fountains, contributing to a peaceful atmosphere.

Following your return to the hotel, you can enjoy the remainder of the day at your own pace.

Accommodation:
Day 4: Kuala Lumpur on your own

The day is yours to spend as you wish. There’s plenty to do in the Malaysian capital, and we guarantee you won’t find yourself bored. You can choose to explore the city independently or join one of our exciting optional tours, detailed below.

Should you decide to spend the day independently, start with a delicious breakfast at the hotel or venture out to a local café. Consider trying the fragrant rice in the national dish nasi lemak, or savour the flatbread roti canai alongside a good cup of coffee. Afterwards, head up the Petronas Twin Towers and enjoy the view from either the iconic skybridge connecting the towers or the observation deck on the 86th floor. Both spots provide a spectacular view over Kuala Lumpur, offering a fantastic way to see the city from above. From there, continue to the nearby KLCC Park, perfect for a leisurely stroll.

Enjoy a delightful lunch in the area or on Petaling Street in Chinatown, fuelling up for a shopping spree, should you be inclined to indulge.

In the evening, we recommend enjoying a sunset drink at one of the city’s many sky bars before diving into the local culinary scene. Once your appetite has kicked in, you might want to visit the famous food street, Jalan Alor, where you’ll find everything from satay skewers to grilled fish and seafood.

Day 5: Kuala Lumpur – Batu Caves – Cameron Highlands

Today, you will leave Malaysia’s capital and head towards the beautiful highlands of Malaysia, the Cameron Highlands, situated about 200 km north of Kuala Lumpur.

You’ll be picked up at your hotel, and the first stop along the way is the Hindu sanctuary, the Batu Caves, located just north of Kuala Lumpur. The Batu Caves consists of several caves where you can explore temples, religious statues, and colourful murals. However, the most impressive sight is the enormous golden statue of Lord Murugan guarding the rainbow-coloured staircase with its 272 steps. The staircase leads up to the caves, from where you can enjoy views over the capital.

You will then proceed to the Iskandar waterfall, located in the Cameron Highlands. Here, you’ll be greeted by stunning nature and fresh mountain air. The waterfall cascades 30 metres down the dramatic cliffs, forming a small pool.

Next, you will visit Kea Farm, a lively agricultural market surrounded by rolling hills and beautiful plantations. The market is renowned for its colourful array of flowers, fresh vegetables, and fruits ranging from sweet, juicy strawberries to sun-ripened corn on the cob, which thrive in the cool climate of Cameron Highlands. Here, you’ll have a unique opportunity to experience local life up close and soak in the authentic atmosphere where vendors and locals gather.

You will then be driven to your hotel for check-in, and the rest of the day is yours to enjoy at leisure.

The Cameron Highlands are located 1,542 metres above sea level and offer a cooler climate compared to the rest of Malaysia. The pleasant temperatures make the land particularly fertile, which is used for cultivating strawberries, corn, orchids, roses, and tea with plantations stretching as far as the eye can see.

The area was discovered in 1895 by the British surveyor William Cameron, who was on an expedition mapping the area. However, William Cameron’s sketches disappeared, and it was only 40 years later that the British began to appreciate the Cameron Highlands, which became a sought-after retreat when the heat was too intense in the rest of Malaysia. Many settled here permanently, and the British influence can still be seen in the beautiful colonial-style buildings, where it’s easy to imagine colonial rulers sitting on their verandas overlooking the rolling landscapes and green plantations with their afternoon tea.

Day 6: Half-day excursion to Mossy Forest and tea plantations

After breakfast, you will be driven to Mossy Forest, located near Gunung Brinchang Mountain. Mossy Forest is a 200,000-year-old, mystic, lush rainforest known for its mist-shrouded trees covered in moss and ferns. The altitude and the cooler, humid climate contribute to many moss species that cover branches and the ground with a green carpet.

You will walk along paths made of wooden planks, gravel, or natural terrain guiding you through the dense, foggy landscape. Here, you will gain insight into the forest’s biodiversity, including carnivorous plants, rare orchids, and a variety of bird species. Along the way, there are several viewing points, and on clear days, you can admire views over the vast tea plantations, the surrounding mountains, and valleys.

The route is relatively easy but not suited for those with mobility issues, as it can be uneven in places, and after rain, it can be both slippery and muddy.

From this extraordinary natural experience, the tour continues to Sungai Palas Plantation, one of the most famous tea plantations in Cameron Highlands. Upon arrival, you will be given a guided tour where you can witness the entire production process, from the leaves being picked on the plantation to the tea steaming in the cup.

You will then be taken back to the hotel, where you can enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure. Perhaps take a walk in the area and enjoy the breathtaking surroundings.

Accommodation:
Day 7: Cameron Highlands – George Town, Penang

After breakfast, you will leave the highlands and head towards the island of Penang on Malaysia’s west coast – a journey of approximately 4 hours. Penang is an island with a fascinating mix of culture, history, and nature. The main city, George Town, is on UNESCO’s world heritage list due to the city’s unique cultural heritage and architectural beauty. You’ll be staying in George Town for the next few days, so you’re in for a treat!

After arriving at the hotel, the remainder of the day is free for you to enjoy the charming city.

George Town is full of contrasts. High-rise buildings and large shopping centres stand in stark contrast to the city’s beautiful, old colonial-era buildings. Among the most visited sights are Fort Cornwallis, George Town’s Town Hall, the Queen Victoria Clock Tower, and St. George’s Church, all located in the old town. It is also here that you’ll find impressive mosaics and creative street art adorning the old walls, while cosy cafes offer freshly baked bread, cakes, homemade juices, and coffee.

George Town is a multicultural community where virtually every faith is represented, offering the opportunity to experience churches, mosques, as well as Chinese, Buddhist, and Hindu temples. The city’s multi-ethnic society, primarily composed of Malays, Chinese, and Indians, is vividly reflected in its culinary scene. In fact, George Town is known as “the food capital of Malaysia” and is a paradise for food lovers with its delicious, diverse street food, offering dishes such as char kway teow (fried rice noodle dish), asam laksa (spicy noodle soup), and nasi kandar (curry dish with rice).

The city’s multicultural society is also evident in streets such as Street of Harmony, Armenian Street, Chinatown, Little India, and in one of the city’s seven “Clan Jetties,” which are small Chinese villages built on stilts over the water.

Near George Town, there are also several beautiful natural attractions. A short drive away is Penang Hill, and at 833 metres above sea level, it is the highest point on Penang. Penang Hill offers a stunning view of George Town and the surrounding sea. Simultaneously, Penang Hill is covered by lush rainforest, and here you’ll find The Habitat park. Here, it is possible to spot various bird species, curious squirrels, and long-tailed macaques. The Habitat also offers spectacular viewing spots, canopy walkways, and interactive exhibitions.

George Town is, in every way, a vibrant city!

Day 8: Half-day city tour in George Town

Today, you’re in for an exciting city tour in George Town.

You’ll be picked up from your hotel and taken to the vibrant and lively Chowrasta Market, deeply rooted in the city’s culture and history. Located on Penang’s famous Jalan Chowrasta, the market has been around since the 19th century, making it one of Malaysia’s oldest markets. Here, you can experience local life, with traders buying everything from fresh produce to dried spices and belacan, a shrimp paste that is a Penang specialty.

From here, the tour continues to the city’s promenade, the Esplanade, where you can enjoy views over the Straits of Malacca and the historic surrounding areas, including the British-built Fort Cornwallis from the 18th century and the iconic Queen Victoria Memorial Clock.

The next stop is Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling, also known as the ‘Street of Harmony.’ Here, different religions coexist peacefully and with mutual respect, a testament to George Town’s multi-ethnic community. You can see St. George’s Church, Malaysia’s oldest Anglican church, the Chinese Kuan Yin Teng Temple, the Hindu Sri Mahamariamman Temple, and the Kapitan Keling Mosque.

The tour’s final visit is to the Thai temple Wat Chayamangkalaram, founded in 1845. The temple is famous for its colourful decorations and for housing one of the world’s largest reclining Buddha statues, measuring a full 33 metres. Besides this impressive Buddha, you can also admire other beautiful Buddha statues and stunning murals depicting scenes from Buddha’s life.

Afterwards, the rest of the day is yours to enjoy at your leisure.

City break in Singapore
3 nights

Extend your tour to include an exciting city break to Singapore and be blown away by the state-of-the-art metropolis of the East.

Covering an area of just 721.5 km2, the island state is South-east Asia’s smallest country, and what the small, well-developed country lacks in size, it more than makes up for in experiences.

Look forward to experiencing the architectural Marina Bay Sands, stroll around the green oasis Gardens by the Bay, shop to your heart’s content on Orchard Road, drink Singapore Slings at Raffles Hotel and ride in the 165-metre-high ferris wheel, the Singapore Flyer, which offers a phenomenal view of all the futuristic skyscrapers and the harbour.

What also makes Singapore so cool is that it is a melting pot of cultures, and people live with respect for and an understanding of one another, with Buddhist temples, mosques, churches and Hindu temples side by side. Singapore’s diversity can be experienced in the charming districts of Little India, China Town and the Arabic and Malay quarter, Kampong Glam. Soak in the atmosphere while being seduced by the wonderful, colourful buildings and the aroma of spices and jasmine.

The multicultural community is also reflected in the many culinary delights on offer around the city. If you’re into authentic street food, you can visit one of the famous hawker centres, or, if upscale Michelin restaurants are more your thing, make your way to the special food street, Keong Saik Road, and discover some of Singapore’s best restaurants.

Other popular and hip neighbourhoods are the colourful Haji Lane in Kampong Glam and the Art Deco area, Tiong Bahru. Both neighbourhoods are known for their cosy cafés, exciting restaurants and shops as well as wonderful street art.

In stark contrast to the vibrant city life is Sentosa Island, a small island which offers lovely sandy beaches and countless sights and activities for the whole family such as Universal Studios and various adventure parks.
