After 55 minutes by speedboat, you arrive at this barefoot paradise on the island of Meerufenfushi in the North Malé Atoll. The island is 1,200 metres long and 350 metres wide. Upon arrival, your first thought is: “Am I dreaming or am I awake?” and you almost have to pinch yourself, because Meeru is a true paradise!
The pier floats above the turquoise clear water, and the staff is ready to greet you. You sink your toes into the chalk-white sand and are offered a welcome drink while the staff takes care of your check-in. You will then be shown to your villa.
Meeru has a total of 284 villas and offers a wide range of room categories, from elegant beachfront villas to luxurious villas on stilts in the sea. They are all spacious, well furnished and offer beautiful views of the fairytale sea. Each villa is fitted with Wi-Fi, air conditioning, ceiling fan, minibar and safe. The beach villas offer you the pleasure of a partially open-air bathroom with a rain shower, while the villas on stilts have a regular bathroom. In the morning, you can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee on your terrace while gazing out over the turquoise sea together with the island’s faithful herons, which can be seen every morning.
Meeru is divided into two zones, one particularly for couples and one for families with a children’s pool and a family-friendly restaurant. Sandy paths with swaying palm trees and tropical trees and bushes connect different areas on the island, so that you do not have to walk all the way around the island to reach your favourite restaurant or swimming pool. If you think the distances are too great, you can rent a bicycle or have the island’s buggy drive you.
The island is surrounded by a beautiful turquoise lagoon and an almost dazzling white sandy beach, where you can enjoy the sea breeze from your private sun lounger. You can also go swimming and snorkelling directly from the beach among colourful fish and turtles. In 2016, Meeru started the ‘Coral Garden’ project aimed at replanting corals in the lagoon around Meeru after a coral bleaching of the Maldives’ coral reefs, and the result is highly visible in the clear waters.
You can also enjoy an extensive range of activities such as fitness, golf, tennis, badminton, beach volley, football, billiards, pétanque, table tennis as well as stand-up paddle, kayaking, jet skiing, water skiing, traditional ‘Dhoni’ sailing and windsurfing. In addition, Meeru offers various excursions, including sunset trips, fishing trips, snorkelling and diving trips and much more. You can also learn more about the history of the Maldives in the resort’s own state-of-art museum. For children, there are several different children’s activities and a children’s club.
After a day of activities, you can pamper yourself with an unforgettable spa treatment at the award-winning Duniye Spa, which will make you feel reborn.
At Meeru, you can also look forward to culinary experiences at the resort’s six restaurants, which serve everything from seafood and Asian specialties to Mediterranean cuisine and delicious barbecue dishes. You will rarely experience such a large selection and so tasty dishes, where herbs, vegetables and fruits come from Meeru’s own garden.
In the evening, as the sun quietly sets, you can enjoy a drink at one of the island’s lounge bars, which offer a relaxed atmosphere overlooking the beach.
With its natural beauty, luxurious facilities, and friendly staff, Meeru is the perfect choice for a break from everyday life. Here, relaxation and adventure go hand in hand.
It is also worth mentioning that Meeru is Travelife Gold certified, which means that the resort meets a large number of international standards on reduction of water and energy consumption, limitation of food waste and the use of plastic, sorting of waste and looking after nature and wildlife. With a stay at Meeru, you have therefore made a greener choice.
NB! There is a medical clinic on the island, which is open around the clock.
