Right on the beach in the northwestern part of Mauritius you will find the hotel Le Meridien Ile Maurice.

Le Meridien Ile Maurice stands out for being a five-star hotel with lots of soul. Five stars are only given when every box is ticked – on top of which you will find cosiness and charm – and something for everyone.

The hotel is particularly suitable for families with children as well as for couples.

Families can enjoy all the activities for children and the young at heart, while couples without children can be pampered in the Nirvana wing, which is reserved for adults. This wing has its own pool with a pool bar, and all Nirvana guests also receive a bottle of wine on arrival, an in-room fruit basket and a sunset cocktail. Nirvana guests can also enjoy their own breakfast restaurant – but are, of course, welcome to use the large restaurant as well.

Families with children, on the other hand, benefit from the fact that children under 11 can stay for free in the same room as their parents.

There are 261 rooms, all of which have a view of either the sea or the large tropical gardens surrounding the hotel. All the rooms have a private balcony or terrace. They also have air conditioning, a TV and a minibar.

There are four restaurants and a wealth of activities on offer, ranging from a spa, kids club, water sports, diving centre and a well-equipped gym.

The hotel is located directly next to the chalk-white beach, but if you would rather jump into a pool, there are three of them. The layout of the hotel is quite ingenious: the entire length of the beach has been utilised, so you are never far from either the pool or the sea.

The small town of Grand Baie is only a 20-minute drive away, so you have every opportunity to explore the local life and cuisine if you wish.

Westin Turtle Bay Resort & Spa

In the evening, you can enjoy a drink to the sight of the most beautiful sunset over the sea. Behind you are Mauritius’ dramatic mountains and in front of you lies the protected Turtle Bay Marine Park.

You are at the five-star Westin Turtle Bay & Spa resort and, whether you want to relax on the beach or by one of the two pools, or to snorkel, dive, sail, play tennis, run, cycle – or enjoy spa treatments all day long, you’ve come to the right place. The hotel is located on a 10-hectare site, so whether you want to be active or wind right down, there’s room for you.

Like the entire hotel, the 190 rooms are stylishly appointed. They offer plenty of space and all have their own balcony or terrace, flat-screen TV, tea/coffee making facilities, minibar, iron and free Wi-Fi.

The hotel has no fewer than seven restaurants and bars, so there is something for everyone.

Please note that most of the hotel restaurants have a dress code for dinner, so you’ll have to leave your shorts and flip-flops in the room in the evening.

Veranda Paul et Virginie Hotel & Spa

The charming boutique hotel “Veranda Paul et Virginie” on the northern coast of Mauritius is the perfect place to relax at the end of an eventful journey. The beaches on this part of the island are often small, but they are fabulous and undisturbed.

The hotel is perfect for couples looking for a romantic, relaxing holiday in a tranquil setting. Children under the age of 18 are not allowed, and we can promise with near certainty that you will wind right down after a stay here.

The 81 rooms all have full or partial sea views, and naturally all of them have a terrace or balcony from which the views can be enjoyed all day long. The rooms are decorated in light colours, with light materials that make the surroundings feel bright and airy.

The hotel offers a range of facilities and activities such as two swimming pools, a day spa, various water sports, tennis, etc. It has two restaurants and we have chosen to include half board in your stay, so you can enjoy the day, the pool, the beach, the sun and each other without having to think about where to eat in the evening.

There is direct access from the hotel to a small but wonderful beach. A 15-minute taxi ride from the hotel is the town of Grand Baie, where you can use the public beach in the beautiful bay, and you will find a variety of reasonably-priced cafés and restaurants. The town also offers good shopping.

You are staying at a five-star resort on the west coast of Mauritius – in the middle of the world-famous beach, Flic en Flac.

With its 2 km long white sandy beach, Flic en Flac is embodiment of Mauritius. The lagoon is protected by coral reefs, making it the perfect place to swim and offering good diving and snorkelling opportunities.

The hotel offers a wide range of free activities: paddle boarding, tennis, yoga, etc.

The rooms are large, spacious and decorated in Mauritian and Asian style with either a balcony or a patio. All of the rooms look out onto the sea and all have air conditioning, a minibar, tea and coffee making facilities, a flat-screen TV – and everything else you would expect from a five-star resort. There is free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel.

The hotel has three restaurants, and there is a restaurant/bar on the beach. There are two large swimming pools – one for everyone and one just for adults. There is a kids club for children, and for adults, there is a fantastic day spa area offering a range of facial and body treatments.

Sands Suites Resort & Spa

Sands Suites Resort & Spa has everything a 4-star resort offers – except for a ‘Kids Club’, as the hotel does not allow children under 12 years of age. Sands Suites Resort & Spa is located on the world famous beach of Flic en Flac which is 2 km long, with white beaches that are the epitome of Mauritius. For those who require a quiet and relaxing base for a holiday in Mauritius, this stunning resort is very suitable.

The hotel consists entirely of large deluxe rooms, which all have either a balcony or terrace and are sea facing. All rooms have either a large double bed (king size) or twin beds. Other room amenities include air conditioning, telephone with voice mail, safe, minibar, TV with multiple channels and tea or coffee making facilities.

The spacious bathrooms have a separate shower with glass door, bathtub and toilet. You will also find a hairdryer, shaver socket and walk-in wardrobe.

The hotel has 3 restaurants where “Tamarind Terrace” offers a selection of international cuisine and various Mauritian specialties and a good selection of fine wines from many parts of the world. The other two restaurants offer seafood and cuisine of the highest class with an additional charge for half board. Make use of the spa, fitness centre and free activities like kayaking, snorkelling, surfing, small sailboats and pedal boats.

Just one of the unique highlights to be found is a sailing tour around the lagoon of “Flic en Flac” beach for around 5-10 minutes, free of charge. Here you can sail in the lagoon with the large groups of dolphins which congregate each morning into the lagoon, in around 10-20 feet of water where they stay until around midday, before swimming out in search of deeper waters.

Iko Mauritius Resort

Situated on the wild, unspoilt east coast of Mauritius – farthest to the south – is the fabulous 5-star Iko Resort. The hotel is part of the Anantara luxury chain and has everything you would expect from a 5-star resort.

From the time you step into the beautifully decorated lobby until you are settled into your lovely room, you will be aware of the attention to detail paid to the décor around you, which is both cosy and modern.

All 172 rooms have their own balcony or terrace and all have an espresso machine, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TV, and a fabulous bathroom with BOTH shower and bathtub.

You will probably spend most of your time here at the beautiful infinity pool, which overlooks the Indian Ocean. If you are looking to gather experiences, you have good hiking and biking trails right outside your door. Play a game of tennis or enjoy a good massage at the hotel spa – perhaps while the kids are having fun at the Kids’ Club or at the special children’s pool.

Blue Bay Marine Park is located a mere stone’s throw away from the hotel, but you don’t actually even have to leave the hotel area if you want to snorkel. In the ocean just outside the resort, efforts have been made to save the coral, so you can easily snorkel straight from the beach. For the same reason, motorised boats are not allowed to sail right near the hotel – so both you and the fragile coral get to enjoy some peace and quiet.

Grab an afternoon drink at the cosy bar before heading on to one of the hotel’s three restaurants, all of which have a character of their own.

Heritage Awali Golf & Spa Resort

Veranda Grand Baie

A short stroll from the small town of Grand Baie on Mauritius’s north coast, you’ll find the four-star hotel, Veranda Grand Baie.

It is worth noting that the beach at the hotel is not quite on par with some of the island’s other beaches. As the bay is popular for many water sports activities, the water can be slightly ‘muddier’, and because of all the boats, it is not possible to swim everywhere.

However, the hotel’s long infinity pool with views of the bay (‘Grand Bay’) definitely offers – in our opinion – a worthy alternative, and below the hotels there is also a small white beach if you need to feel the sand between your toes. And it is difficult to find a hotel that is more perfectly located if you want water sports activities, pool life, town life, shopping and restaurant life AND a picturesque and affordable place to stay.

The hotel itself is very charming with its modern colonial style. Green plants, wooden shutters, bamboo furniture and pale colours characterise the interior in both the lobby and restaurant. The long infinity pool is located in the middle of the resort, while the delightful beach bar/restaurant overlooks the beach and cove. Just below the beach bar you will find the ‘boathouse’, where you can borrow kayaks or paddleboards. It is also from here that you can hop on the free water taxi that will take you into the centre of Grand Baie. With your stomachs – or shopping bags – full, you can easily stroll back to the hotel in less than 15 minutes.

The rooms are in small bungalows, which are located behind the communal areas. Here, you can enjoy views of the lush gardens – and it is so quiet and peaceful that it’s hard to imagine that you’re only a few minutes’ walk from the centre of Grand Baie!

A stay here generally includes half board, but it is possible to choose either bed & breakfast or all-inclusive instead.

C Mauritius

Reconnect with your inner child and look forward to a relaxed, chill-out holiday experience at the four-star all-inclusive hotel, C Mauritius. As it says above the entrance to the restaurant: “Life is short, eat dessert first”.

The hotel is located on one of Mauritius’s most beautiful beaches, Palmar Beach. Think chalk-white sand and turquoise sea.

The hotel boasts 116 rooms spread over two ‘wings’ with the main restaurant and the lobby in the middle.

The ‘Prestige’ rooms in the southern ‘wing’ are colourfully decorated with lots of personality, while the slightly larger ‘Deluxe’ rooms in the northern wing are a little more subdued and slightly more luxurious. The all-inclusive concept includes a minibar in the room, which is replenished daily with beer, soft drinks and wine (if desired) in addition to all the day’s meals. Also on the food front, C Mauritius stands out (positively, if you ask us) in that, for example, at lunchtime you can pick up your food and a cold beer in the hotel’s self-service restaurant and take it to the beach or enjoy it on your balcony without having to change and wait for a waiter – unless of course you want to do that, because then it’s obviously an option!

Relax by one of the three pools, chill out on the beach with a good book, enjoy a massage, take advantage of the many free water sports activities or withdraw and enjoy the tranquillity of your own balcony or veranda. C Mauritius offers something for everyone – but mostly for those who like colours and quirky angles!

It’s worth noting that the hotel is located on the east coast of Mauritius, which from June to August can be quite windy. From September, the wind gradually dies down, and the east coast is therefore ideal if you want to kite or windsurf.

Veranda Pointe Aux Biches

This cosy, 4-star, boutique-style hotel is to be found in northern Mauritius, approx. 15 km north of Port Louis.

On your arrival at Veranda Pointe Aux Biches, you will be welcomed with a foot spa. Off with your shoes and into the water bath go your feet – the message from the very beginning here is that this is “barefoot bliss”. The floor of the reception is sand and the same goes for the bar and restaurant; after all, it’s a beach holiday you’re on!

The beach itself is at the bottom of the large, lush garden where you will find the rooms.

There are 115 rooms located in two-storey buildings in the tropical garden. All of them have a balcony/terrace, free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, a minibar, a safe, and tea and coffee making facilities. 44 of the rooms are special family rooms with space for all the family, and at one end of the hotel area, you will also find a well-equipped “Kids’ Club”.

Both families with children and couples will enjoy staying at Veranda Pointe Aux Biches, as the hotel is divided into two sections; one for families and one for adults without children. If you want to stay in the adult section, you need to upgrade to a ‘privilege room’. There are 3 pools (one of which is child-free), 2 restaurants, 2 bars and, of course, a spa. 

The hotel offers a wide range of activities: water polo, kayaking, tennis, beach volleyball, table tennis, etc. It is possible to rent bicycles, and 5 times a week there is a free shuttle to Trou aux Biches Beach.

Anelia Resort & Spa

This four-star family-friendly hotel is located right on the edge of the famous Flic en Flac beach on the west coast of Mauritius. You are just a short stroll from the white sandy beach which offers excellent snorkelling, not to mention the opportunity to retreat and enjoy the peace and tranquillity around you.

The hotel has no fewer than four pools, two of which are children’s pools, making it the perfect choice for a family holiday. A whole host of activities are on offer, including a kids’ club so there’s no need to get bored. Unless, of course, you choose to do just that….

The 150 rooms are well-appointed in bright, friendly colours. All rooms have their own balcony or terrace.

We reckon the “Burger Bar” restaurant will probably be a hit with the whole family, and there are also two other restaurants to choose from.

You are the master of your own time at Anelia. The hotel can help arrange excursions, and on one of the days, you should treat yourself to a visit to the beautiful day spa. After a lovely massage, you can relax in the outdoor jacuzzi, set in the scenic surroundings of the lush, well-kept garden.

5 km from the hotel is Casela Nature Park, a great place for children and adults alike where you can see giant turtles, zebras, tigers, lions, giraffes, monkeys, 1,500 birds as well as exotic flowers and plants. You can have a go at zip lining, canyon swing, Segway, walking on hanging bridges and much more besides.

Veranda Palmar Beach

Veranda Palmar Beach has only 77 rooms, so it almost qualifies as a boutique hotel. Officially, the hotel has three stars, but in our opinion it deserves at least half a star more. It exudes charm and atmosphere, the rooms are neat and spacious, and the staff are very accommodating. The buffet may not quite be Michelin level, but it is well prepared and the selection is ample – you will definitely not go to bed hungry! If you like grilled seafood, we highly recommend that you dine once or twice at the beach restaurant, although it is not included in the hotel’s all-inclusive concept.

The rooms, which are located in a sweep of two and three-storey buildings, surround – together with the restaurant – the pool area and the charming bar.

There are three room categories, and thanks to the hotel’s ingenious layout you are never far from the water, whether it’s a pool or the sea.

The ‘Comfort’ rooms are located furthest away from the beach but on the other hand closest to the pool, while the ‘Comfort Beachfront’ rooms are – as their name suggests – closest to the beach. Between the two are the ‘Comfort Seaview’ rooms. All room categories are the same size – only their different situations set them apart. The rooms on the ground floor all have a small patio, while those on the first and second floors have balconies.

The hotel is suitable for both couples and families with children, as the rooms are large enough to accommodate two adults and two children (under 12 years old).

The hotel offers a wealth of water sports and is particularly suitable if you want to wind or kite surf, parasail or just sail in a regular sailboat. The wind on the east coast can be quite sustained at times, and is therefore ideal for sailing.

The months of June to August are the windiest, and during this period you might consider upgrading to Veranda Grand Baie, or perhaps compromise a little on the image of the chalk-white beach and instead book a stay at Veranda Tamarin.

However, the beach is still one of the most beautiful in all of Mauritius, and luckily there is almost always shelter by the pool!
