Veranda Tamarin Mauritius

Tamarin Bay

Veranda Tamarin is probably one of the most charming hotels on Mauritius’s west coast.

The hotel is particularly appealing to the ‘young at heart’ who want to experience a touch of local life in Mauritius.

There are no high walls or electric gates here. Instead, there are hammocks, sand on the floor in the lobby and a cosy, charming and intimate atmosphere.

The hotel is located right on the beautiful Tamarin Bay, which is home to pods of dolphins, and here on the west coast of the island you will be blessed with the most beautiful sunsets. The bay is particularly suitable if you are holidaying with your children, as the water is almost always calm – even from June to August when it is otherwise quite windy.

The hotel has 116 rooms, all of which have en suite bathrooms, air conditioning, tea/coffee-making facilities, minibars and free Wi-Fi. The rooms are very charming, with colours used to good effect so they are both inviting, modern and retro at the same time. All the rooms have a private balcony or terrace. Each room is also equipped with a ‘beach set’ comprising a basket with towels and beach mats, and even your own cooler bag.

The beach just across the road is public, and the best thing to do is take a packed lunch and cold drinks in your cooler bag, unpack the beach mats, lie down in the semi-shade and do as the locals do: play beach tennis, swim, read a book or go snorkelling – and generally just enjoy the local life. At weekends, the beach is very popular with the locals. The children play, the teenagers giggle among themselves and the young adults drink beer and listen to music. So, you have to be prepared for that. On the other hand, it’s definitely one of the most authentic beach experiences Mauritius has to offer.

If you are more into the quiet pool life without too much local hustle and bustle, you can settle down on the hotel’s lovely sun loungers in the semi-shade.

If you’re feeling peckish or thirsty, you can visit one of the hotel’s two restaurants or three bars. The bars serve delicious snacks, wraps or sandwiches all day long.

Hop in the pool, visit the spa or take advantage of one of the hotel’s free activities – water aerobics, boccia, snorkelling, kayaking out to the dolphins etc. – or settle into one of the hammocks and enjoy the views. Tamarin offers a relaxed, local holiday atmosphere at its best!
