Hiking Tour in Black River Gorges National Park
The highest point in Mauritius is Black River Peak at 828 metres above sea level. The mountain is located in the national park of the same name: Black River Gorges. The national park itself is named after the black stones found on the banks of the river that runs through the park.
The national park covers just over 3% of Mauritius’ total area and is the habitat of several endemic birds, including the Mauritius kestrel and the pink pigeon.
The park has a large network of hiking trails for both experienced hikers and those who just want to enjoy the natural surroundings without breaking too much of a sweat.
