What will you experience on our tours?
Mexico is largely shaped by its historical background, with, for example, the heyday and culture of the Mayans and Aztecs. History permeates a large part of Mexico’s greatest attractions and sights.
Mexico also offers truly wonderful and diverse nature and fabulous beaches.
Mexico City
Mexico City is one of the world’s biggest cities – if not the biggest.
The city is built on top of the ruins of the ancient Aztec capital, Tenochtitlán, and you also sense this when visiting the capital. In Mexico City, the Aztec ruins lie alongside the city skyscrapers, giving you a feel of the city and its historical background.
Mexico City is a melting pot of experiences, and it can be difficult to choose between all the different sights.
From the main square – the Zocalo – you have access to three of the city’s biggest attractions:
- the National Palace (Palacio Nacional)
- The famous Cathedral, Metropolitana, which is one of the world’s largest and oldest cathedrals
- Templo Mayor, which are the ruins of the former Aztec capital, Tenochtitlan
Mexico also offers a vibrant nightlife with plenty of opportunities to dance, listen to music and eat delicious food, whether you’re into street food or gourmet cuisine.
The Yucatán Peninsula
On the Yucatan Peninsula, located in southeastern Mexico between the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea, you will find beautiful beaches and countless opportunities for the adventurous traveller, whether this means a beach holiday or a visit to some of the old, iconic sights.
Chichen Itza
In the northern part of the Yucatán Peninsula, you will find Chichen Itza. The ruins of Chichen Itza are one of the biggest attractions, if not the biggest, in Mexico. Chichen Itza is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and when you visit the city, you will understand why. The archaeological site testifies to the impressive community, which the Mayans managed to build some 1,500 years ago.
At Chichen Itza, you can see the famous 25-metre-high pyramid, El Castillo. El Castillo was named one of the world’s seven new wonders in 2007, and is well worth a visit.
Valladolid
The colonial city of Valladolid is known for its beautiful architecture and laid-back atmosphere, and the city offers you the opportunity to delve into traditional Mexican culture and history.
The city was founded in 1543 by Spanish explorers and is named after the Spanish city Valladolid.
Here you can, among other attractions, explore the beautiful Catedral de San Gervasio, or you can try some of the area’s culinary specialties.
Playa del Carmen
Playa del Carmen is one of Mexico’s most popular beach holiday destinations.
Originally a fishing village, Playa del Carmen is best known today for its beautiful beach with crystal-clear waters that attracts travellers from all over the world.
The lovely beach invites you to both relaxation and bathing, but also to a wealth of water sports activities, for example stand-up paddleboarding, windsurfing and jet skiing. Off Playa del Carmen lies the island of Cozumel, which offers world-class underwater experiences for divers and snorkellers.
In the heart of the town is the lively Avenida 5, a shopping street lined with a large selection of shops, restaurants and cafés.
Isla Holbox
Off the north coast of the Yucatán Peninsula lies the paradise island of Isla Holbox with white beaches, lagoons and crystal clear sea.
Here you can relax completely with a tropical beach holiday or explore the island’s rich flora and fauna.
You can, for example, see crocodiles and tropical birds, experience luminous microorganisms in the sea when there is a new moon or even swim with the majestic whale sharks that migrate to the waters around the island between June and September.
Tulum
Another popular beach holiday destination on the Yucatan Peninsula.
Tulum is smaller than Playa del Carmen and has a calmer, more bohemian feel to it. This manifests itself, among other things, in the fact that bicycles are a preferred means of transport – a distinctive characteristic of Tulum.
In addition to its beautiful sandy beach, azure waters and good snorkelling opportunities, Tulum also offers interesting sights. Visit, for example, the Tulum ruins, which were a trade centre between the 13th and 15th centuries, and the UNESCO-protected Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, which offers unique flora and fauna, including 300 different bird species.
Other highlights in Mexico
There is no shortage of amazing sights in Mexico. In addition to the above, you can also discover:
- San Cristóbal de las Casas, one of the most beautiful and charming colonial cities in Mexico, located at an altitude of 2,100 metres.
- With its 500+ cataracts large and small, the Cascadas de Agua Azul is one of the most unforgettable natural wonders in Mexico
- The Palenque ruins, one of the largest cities of the Mayans, are today surrounded by tropical rainforest and known for their indescribable beauty.
