Full-day excursion to Shimba Hills
If the days on the beach are too long, and you are already missing the feeling of safari, then perhaps a day trip to Shimba Hills National Reserve, located just 30 km from Mombasa, could be just the thing for you.
You won’t find the Big 5 here, but you may be lucky enough to see the rare sable antelopes, giraffes, elephants, small cats and a lot of birds. But the real draw to Shimba is actually nature in itself. The area boasts both coastal rainforest and open grasslands, and it is important for plant biodiversity. Birds and butterflies fly among the many rare orchids, and as there are no dangerous animals in the park, it is possible to go walking.
The most popular walk is to Sheldrick’s Falls, which is the only waterfall on the coast.
Lunch is enjoyed at a lodge in the park, the starting point of other walks. You can also just sit and let your lunch go down on the lodge’s balcony before heading back to the coast in the afternoon.
This excursion can be booked and paid for through our partner in Mombasa.
