THE TOUR IN SHORT

This tour is particularly suitable for those who want to visit Namibia, but who are also dreaming of the classic experiences in South Africa with a ‘big five’ safari in Kruger National Park and big city experiences in Cape Town. Luckily, you don’t have to choose between the two – on this trip you get it all!

The journey starts with Namibia’s magnificent nature, which is among the world’s most unique. There are vast skies and almost no people. Here, you will find landscapes that will impress even the most seasoned travellers, on top of which it boasts one of the world’s oldest deserts. You experience it all in the company of an expert, locally known guide.

This is followed by a visit to Cape Town, South Africa’s second-largest city. It is one of Africa’s most westernised cities, offering a wide range of experiences, and the city is the perfect introduction to multicultural South Africa. The days in Cape Town are generally at your leisure, so you can decide what you want to remember your tour by.

The wild animals you see on this trip will be in South Africa. The tour ends with a safari expedition to find the ‘big five’ game – and all the other safari animals – in Kruger National Park.

It is possible to extend the tour to, for example, exotic Mauritius or perhaps to the mighty Victoria Falls.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Departure from selected airport

Departure today from your selected airport with Namibia as the destination with connecting flight(s) along the way.

Day 2: Arrival in Windhoek, Namibia – Transfer to Swakopmund

On arrival in Windhoek, you will be met at the airport and driven to Swakopmund. The trip takes just over 4 hours, and it is possible to stop along the way. On arrival at the hotels, the rest of the day is free to relax after the flight.

Accommodation:
Day 3: Experiences on your own in Swakopmund

You can spend the day as you wish – we recommend exploring the city’s history and architecture.

It is often said that Swakopmund is one of the best-preserved examples of German colonial architecture in the world. There are wide streets and good views. It’s easy to find your way around Swakopmund without a guide. Allow time for a good cup of coffee – and a good dinner. During the next few days in the desert, the selection is a little more limited.

However, if you want to head outside the city to the incredible dune landscape or try a quad bike tour in the desert, you will need to book an excursion. Your guide can show you what to do!

Accommodation:
Day 4: Swakopmund – Sossusvlei

The drive from Swakopmund to Sossusvlei alone is a highlight of your visit to Namibia.

Gaub Pass in the mountains offers such amazing scenery that you will feel like pinching yourself. If you’re lucky, you will be able to spot the mountain zebras that live in the area. The mountain zebra is the smallest of three zebra species.

You also pass the Tropic of Capricorn, which is the southernmost latitude where the sun can be at its zenith – i.e. be just above your head. Its northern counterpart is the Tropic of Cancer, which passes through, for example, Egypt.

The small town of Solitaire is named after its isolated location. The town was named by a sheep farmer’s wife. Her husband bought the land in 1948 to breed sheep – and you can almost figure out his wife’s reaction when you know that it was she who named the sheep farm …

In the late afternoon, you will reach your destination for the day, Sossusvlei, where you check in to your lodge. There is time for an afternoon excursion if you like.

Accommodation:
Day 5: Experiences in Sossusvlei and Sesriem Canyon

Dune 45 is probably one of the most famous sand dunes in the world. It is located in Sossusvlei, and gets its name because it is located 45 km after Sesriem on the road to Sossusvlei. It is probably also one of the most photographed sand dunes in the world, simply because it is so perfectly shaped and so easily accessible.

Of course, you will also get the chance to photograph Dune 45. But the real highlight of the day is the colours. The red and orange earth tones, which contrast sharply with a bright blue sky. This is how Namibia is most often depicted.

Sesriem Canyon is also on the day’s programme. The canyon has been created by the Tsauchab River, which has been running through the canyon for millions of years. However, there is only water in the river when it rains in the Naukluft Mountains. The soil cannot absorb all the water fast enough, and so-called flash floods occur, where large volumes of water are forced through the canyon in a short space of time – and this is what has given the canyon its distinctive formations.

In the late afternoon, you are back at the lodge, where you can relax in the pool or join in some of the organised activities at the lodge.

Accommodation:
Day 6: Sossusvlei – Windhoek

There is an early departure for Namibia’s capital, Windhoek, so you have the afternoon to explore the city.

Windhoek is the country’s largest city, which is reflected in the wide choice of cafés, restaurants and shops. However, it is not larger than you can easily move around on foot in most places. Try visiting the Old Brewery Complex, where you are sure to find a wonderful souvenir to take back home.

Windhoek is a modern city with clear architectural influences from the German colonial era, so it is also nice just strolling around a bit after days with a lot of driving.

Day 7: Windhoek – Cape Town

You will be picked up at your hotel and driven to the airport, from where you will fly to Cape Town in South Africa. Here, you will be greeted at the airport and driven to your hotel, where you will spend four nights.

Days 8-10: Things to do in Cape Town

The days in Cape Town are at your leisure, and there is plenty to do and see. The city is possibly one of the world’s most beautifully located small cities with the roaring Atlantic Ocean on one side and the iconic Table Mountain on the other.

A stroll on the famous waterfront is a must. The area still functions as an ordinary port along with tourists, shops, entertainment, restaurants and many other activities.

A visit to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned, is also a popular excursion.

A trip to Cape Point also makes a great day out. It provides a perfect opportunity to see the beautiful coastline and landscape around Cape Town, and at the actual point, you can even feel the strong winds blowing up from the South Pole.

If you are into good food and wine, you will certainly not be disappointed in Cape Town, and if you want the ultimate wine experience, you should treat yourself to a trip to the Winelands.

One thing is certain – you won’t have a dull moment in Cape Town!

Day 11: Cape Town – Kruger Nationalpark

You will be picked up at the hotel and driven to the airport, from where you will fly to Nelspruit, close to Kruger National Park. Here, you will be met and driven to your camp just outside the park.

The afternoon is at your leisure. The camp’s pool area overlooks the park, so you might well be tempted to enjoy a cold drink here while trying to spot hippos in the river below.

Day 12: Safari in Kruger National Park

Where Namibia offers outstanding landscapes, South Africa offers fantastic wildlife experiences. Today is spent on safari in Kruger National Park, one of the world’s most famous and also one of South Africa’s oldest national parks.

You depart from the camp early in the morning, and you are not back until late in the day.

It’s impossible to say what the day will offer – and that’s exactly what makes going on a safari so fascinating! The feeling that you are now in the midst of the animals’ habitat is completely overwhelming. Impalas, buffaloes, giraffes and elephants emerge from the bushes and disappear again. Here, you will find storks, eagles and vultures as well as crocodiles, hippos – and lions. There is no guarantee that you will meet all the ‘big five’ game animals, but there’s a good chance you will. You may want to bring your own binoculars from home so you can help keep a lookout.

A lunch break is organised at midday at one of the many campsites in the park. Here, there is a small café, where you can buy food and drink and perhaps a snack or two.

At the end of the day, you return to the camp and have a good dinner.

Days 13-14: The days are at your leisure

Over the next few days you can decide what you want to remember your tour by.

Of course, it’s possible to buy an extra safari in Kruger, or perhaps you would rather see the beautiful landscapes on the Panorama Route? You might also just decide to relax by the pool. The choice is yours!

Day 15: Kruger National Park – The return journey starts

Well in advance of your departure, there is transport to the airport in Johannesburg, the starting point for your return journey.

Day 16: Return

You land in Denmark after an exciting and eventful holiday.
