El Albergue

Ollantaytambo

Look forward to spending the night in the historic town of Ollantaytambo, surrounded by the Andes Mountains, at the charming and authentic El Albergue hotel. The hotel dates from 1925 and enjoys a unique location at the town’s train station right on the Urubamba River.

There is a large piece of land belonging to the hotel, and they have their own café, restaurant, distillery and a large garden with exotic flowers and fruit trees, which attract hummingbirds, among others. On the adjacent plot, they run an organic farm that still uses traditional techniques that have existed for centuries. As a guest staying at the hotel, you are welcome to visit the farm and gain an exciting insight into its production.

The hotel has just 25 rooms, cosily furnished with dark wooden furniture. They all have an en suite toilet/shower, Wi-Fi, safe and a radiator, as it can get a little chilly at night.

At the hotel’s Café Mayu, located at the train station, you can satisfy your hunger if you’re feeling peckish. Delicious sandwiches, salads, cake and, not least, wonderful freshly brewed coffee, made with beans from their own roastery, are served here. The café is open from morning to evening.

Next to the café is the El Albergue Restaurant, where your breakfast (included) is served. The restaurant is also open for lunch and dinner. The menu is composed of fresh organic ingredients from the area, and not least from their own farm (such as corn, potatoes and quinoa), and you can look forward to exciting Peruvian flavours here.

From the hotel, it is just a 10-15-minute walk to Plaza de Armas, the city’s central square, where there are several small shops and restaurants.

The hotel goes to great lengths to be sustainable, and supports projects in the local community. They donate 1% of their profits to the local school, “Kuska”, and Valle Sagrado Verde, which is a conservation programme that works to protect the environment and support the local economy.
