1-day Inca trek
Grab your good walking shoes and prepare for a day that you will never forget with this adventurous hike to Machu Picchu.
You start the day early with a train ride to the KM 104 station, where the Inca trek begins. You first hike towards the Inca ruins of Chachabamba at an altitude of 2,170 metres. It is a beautiful walk that crosses the Urubamba River and passes through the valley of the same name.
Then the climb starts, and you begin to make out in the distance the impressive Inca ruins of Wiñay Wayna, located on one of the green mountain sides at an altitude of 2,650 metres. The complex of ruins, which is surrounded by the lush, dark green mist forest, consists of old houses, towers and fascinating agricultural terraces winding up the mountain. Here you will have fantastic views of the mountains and the Urubamba River down in the valley.
After a short lunch stop, where you can eat your packed lunch and rest your legs, the trek continues towards the Sun Gate, also called Inti Punku. When you walk through this iconic gate, you will get your first glimpse of the magnificent Inca city of Machu Picchu. It is an absolutely magical experience to stand here and contemplate the sacred city of the Incas among the surrounding majestic mountains.
The trek then proceeds to Aguas Calientes, where you will spend the night.
