Kapama Southern Camp

Kapama Private Game Reserve

15,000 hectares! That’s the size of Kapama Private Game Reserve, which is located in South Africa’s Limpopo Province. In the southern part of the private game reserve, you’ll find one of the game reserve’s five lodges, the five-star Kapama Southern Camp.

“Camp” is perhaps not quite the right word for it.

There are just 15 suites and 10 villas here, all of which are luxuriously and stylishly appointed in muted natural colours, so that the décor does not detract from or disturb the nature that is right outside the large windows. All suites have their own terrace, from which you can enjoy the view of the bush. Naturally, there is also air conditioning, a minibar and tea and coffee making facilities.

Outside mealtimes, the camp has two primary communal areas: the large wooden deck by the pool, where the sun loungers with their parasol shade and a view of nature beckon, and the very cosy lounge area, where there is both a library and a bar.

Kapama Private Game Reserve has a road network covering more than 800 km, so the area is large and there’s plenty to see on the two daily game drives in “open” safari cars. The game reserve is home to the Big 5 as well as some 350 different bird species. It is also possible (for anyone over 16) to take part in guided bushwalks.

A stay at Southern Camp is “all inclusive”, so all meals with drinks (primarily local, but there is also a good selection of premium wines), all safaris, snacks, tea and coffee are included.

There is NOT a day spa at Southern Camp, but it is possible to use the spa at one of the game reserve’s other lodges. The reception at Southern Camp can help you book an appointment.

Kapama has a strong sustainability profile. The area was originally purchased with agriculture in mind, but the owner soon saw that there was a much greater need to restore the ecosystem and work to preserve the nature and wildlife. They also do a great deal of work for the surrounding villages, where various educational projects have been set up. Part of the income from your safari thus goes back to nature and the local community, and as a guest at Kapama, you have the opportunity to visit some of the projects.
