The sweeping staircase by the main building leads you up to the terrace, from which you have a nice view of the pool and the large garden. Far over on the other side of the valley lie rolling green hills as far as the eye can see. This is where the sun goes down.
Breakfast is taken on the terrace. Dinner is most often enjoyed in the cosy restaurant, which offers a small but good selection of delicious homemade dishes that change daily. The vegetables are bought locally and the herbs grow in the back garden. The bar/reception is open all day, and the staff always have a smile on their face. They are all from the neighbourhood. Rissington Inn does a great job of supporting the local community, and all staff are local and trained on site. You get the impression that they are all one big family rather than employees and employers.
You’ll be taken by Rissington Inn’s charm and personality from the moment you set foot on the stairs. Just wait until you see your room!
There are 20 rooms in total, of which no two are alike – and yet… The style is the same in all rooms: rustic with cast floors and brick surfaces, and at the same time incredibly tastefully furnished with soft chairs, beautiful pictures, bookshelves with books and ornaments – not to mention the port and cookies that welcome everyone. No attention to detail has been spared here, without it feeling over-the-top and extravagant. It’s not all perfect – but the atmosphere is 100% intact.
The rooms have tea and coffee making facilities, air conditioning and a mini fridge. Some rooms have bathtubs, some have outdoor showers and others have double showers. There is also excellent Wi-Fi. All rooms have a veranda. Some have hammocks, others have daybeds – all have views of the garden.
Rissington Inn is the perfect base for exploring the entire area around South Africa’s Lowveld. You’re a mere 20-minute drive from Kruger National Park. You’re close to the Panorama Route, which offers all manner of activities – and the place itself is also conducive to a day or two with a good book, a nap by the pool and perhaps a game of table tennis.
The family-owned inn insists on not giving itself stars, so we’ve chosen to respect that. But suffice it to say we’re pretty much in love with Rissington Inn!
We recommend that you book well in advance if you wish to upgrade to Rissington Inn. As mentioned above, there are only 20 rooms here, and they’re in popular demand!
Rissington Inn also works with a local children’s home, so if you have any surplus children’s clothes, toys, school supplies, etc., you’re very welcome to bring them with you and hand them in at the reception. The staff will make sure it reaches the right people.
