If you want to get up close to nature without compromising too much on comfort, then the Nkambeni Tented Camp is the right place for you.
Here, you stay in spacious, beautiful canvas tents that are raised above ground on platforms. The tents feature modern facilities such as wooden flooring, electricity, air conditioning, good toilet and bath facilities, and options for making tea and coffee. Thanks to the canvas walls, you can still hear both hear and smell the wilderness outside. Here, you can stay in tents with double beds, as well as tents that are especially suited for families. Each tent has its own veranda.
The camp is located in a private section within the Kruger National Park itself, and from the pool, you have an excellent view facing the National Park. You can often see a bloat of hippopotamuses in the river just beyond the big grassy field, and there are benches (and a fence!) set up for you to comfortably and peacefully sit and listen to them puff and frolic in the water below.
The camp offers a wonderful restaurant, a lively bar, an excellent little shop, as well as multiple “bomas”, typical South African fire pits where food is served under open skies.
This camp is the result of targeted efforts to create jobs in the surrounding villages, and with its 150 tents, Nkambeni is a relatively big camp. The tents are spread across a large area amidst the shade of tall trees, letting them “blend” into the surrounding nature, all connected by good paths.
Nkambeni offers a truly unique atmosphere, especially in the late afternoon, when all the guests return from their safaris and share lively stories of the events of the day.
