Guided tour of Cape Town and visit to Robben Island

Today, a guided tour of beautiful Cape Town awaits you. You will be given an introduction to the history of the city and the local traditions, and see some of the biggest sights in the city.

One of the city’s major attractions is Robben Island – the prison island – which is a short boat ride from the city itself, which you will also visit.

In the 20th century, Robben Island was a notorious prison for political prisoners under the South African apartheid regime. Nelson Mandela, the former president of South Africa, spent no fewer than 18 of the total of 27 years of his imprisonment on Robben Island.

Today, Robben Island has been transformed into a museum and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The ferry that sails to Robben Island departs from Cape Town’s famous Waterfront. It is the same boat that was used to transport the prisoners back and forth to the prison. The visit to Robben Island starts with a guided tour of the infamous prison, including Nelson Mandela’s cell. You then go on a bus tour around the island, stopping at the penguin colony before sailing back to Cape Town.

We recommend that you book this from home, as the excursion to Robben Island is often sold out well in advance. Please note, however, that this part of the tour may be cancelled in bad weather which prevents the boat from sailing to the island. Naturally, you will receive a refund for this part of the tour if this is the case – and the city tour can thankfully go ahead regardless of the weather.

Please note that we will require a copy of your passport to book this tour.

The price applies when booked at the same time as the tour:
