Snorkelling at Pigeon Island

After a host of wonderful experiences on dry land, you might be ready to discover what Sri Lanka has to offer under the sea?

Your guide will pick you up from the hotel and drive you to Nilaveli Beach, which is north of Uppuveli Beach. A speedboat will be waiting for you here, ready to zip you to the rocky Pigeon Island, which is known to be the best place to snorkel in Sri Lanka. Situated just 1 km from the coast, it doesn’t take long to get to the little island. On board, you will be kitted out with flippers, a snorkel and a mask, and a guide will run through the day’s itinerary with you. Over the next few hours, you can explore Pigeon Island, both on land and in the water, and you will find out why the island is called Pigeon Island.

Designated a national park in 2003, Pigeon Island offers a coral reef, white beaches and crystal-clear waters. Under the sea, exciting wildlife awaits you in the form of 178 species of tropical fish, blacktip reef sharks and sea turtles including the loggerhead sea turtle, the green sea turtle and the olive ridley sea turtle.

After a wonderful day, you’ll be sailed back to Nilaveli and driven back to your hotel.
