It is hard to find a better-positioned lodge than Ruaha River Lodge.
The lodge comprises 24 cabins which stand slightly elevated above the landscape at a bend in the Ruaha River and with wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. The cabins are built of stone with thatched roofs – all locally produced and built by local tradesmen. All the cabins feature a large veranda with stunning views of the Ruaha River, and they are, of course, furnished with tables and chairs so you can comfortably sit outside and follow what is happening in and around the river.
Inside the cabins there is plenty of luggage space, the beds are equipped with mosquito nets, there is a cosy lounge corner and a bathroom with solar-heated water. It is possible to charge your camera and phone, but please note that the camp is powered by generators, which are turned off at night for environmental reasons. It is therefore a good idea to take an extra power bank.
Don’t forget your binoculars!
One of the lodge’s two restaurants is located high on a kopje, and boasts unique views of the area. The second restaurant is located in the main building, where you will also find the reception and a friendly lounge area with chairs and tables.
The lodge is not ‘luxurious’ – but it is nice, clean, the food is good and the location is absolutely incomparable!
