Rufiji River Camp

Nyerere National Park

Eleven tents stand side by side on the banks of Tanzania’s largest river, the Rufiji. All are built on platforms and with large verandas, which of course offer views of the river. The floors are made of solid wood, and the walls are a combination of canvas and sliding doors. The beds are comfortable and there is plenty of room for luggage. All materials are local – and the camp has been built by local tradesmen, ensuring that the labour and income stay in the local area. There is running hot water in the bathroom, but it is solar-heated, so the water temperature can fluctuate slightly.

All the tents have electricity, but as there is national electricity grid in the national park, the power comes from a generator, which is turned off at night for environmental reasons.

Communal facilities include a pool with sun loungers, a restaurant, a small library and a lounge area overlooking the river.

Rufiji River Camp is a wonderful camp in the depths of beautiful nature. The river attracts a wide array of game, and it is not uncommon to see hippos from your veranda, for example.
