This is the tour for you if you don’t have a lot of time at your disposal but would like to enjoy a taste of a safari in Tanzania, followed by a beach holiday in Zanzibar.
This is the tour for you if you don’t have a lot of time at your disposal but would like to enjoy a taste of a safari in Tanzania, followed by a beach holiday in Zanzibar.
Tarangire National Park is known for its many elephants and the beautiful, majestic baobab trees. And zebras, giraffes and lots of antelopes – and maybe even lions – also await you here.
Even more animals await you in the fantastic Ngorongoro Crater, where you may even be lucky to meet the rarest of the “Big 5”, the black rhinoceros.
After a brief, yet intensive, safari experience in Tanzania, you’ll fly on to beautiful Zanzibar, where it’s time to feel the sun on your nose, sand between your toes and laze on the beach.
If you wish, you can choose to extend your stay in Zanzibar – perhaps to include a few days of experiences in the atmospheric Stone Town.
Today is the day you set off from the selected airport and head for Tanzania with connecting flight(s) on the way.
You arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport in Tanzania Outside the airport, you’ll be met by one of our local guides who will drive you to your hotel just outside Arusha, where you’ll spend the night. The rest of the day is yours to do as you please: You can rest after the journey and perhaps take a dip in the hotel’s pool.
After breakfast, it’s time to leave the hotel and head for Tarangire National Park. It’s a drive of around 3 hours, typically with a stop on the way. To make the most of the time, you’ll have a packed lunch with you in the car today.
In the afternoon, you’ll enjoy a safari in Tarangire National Park. Look forward to experiencing elephants in their hordes! The park is home to the largest number of elephants in the whole of northern Tanzania. There are several reasons why the elephants like to be here. One of the reasons is that they can always find water in Tarangire. Even during the driest period of the year, when the river is almost dry, the elephants know where to dig for water.
Tarangire National Park is also known for its numerous baobab trees. You’d be unlucky not to get a picture of an elephant under a baobab tree, perfectly illustrating the size of some of the trees. The baobab tree is one of the world’s oldest trees, and some estimates say that the tree can live up to 3,000 years. It is said that a baobab tree is not fully grown until it’s 1,000 years old!
After the safari, you’ll drive to Karatu, where you’ll spend two nights.
It’s an early start today as you head off on safari in the Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest intact caldera.
The volcano erupted some 2–3 million years ago and folded in on itself, leaving a gigantic hole, which is today home to more than 25,000 animals and 500 different species of birds.
The trip down into the crater is a highlight in itself. With the roof of the safari car open, down, down, down you drive. You can feel the temperature change and smell all the different trees and flowers until you finally reach the microcosm at the bottom.
The base of the crater is flat and covers an area of 260 km2, and towering some 600 metres up above you is the crater’s edge. It feels a bit like you’re at the bottom of the world, but the crater floor is in fact 2,000 metres above sea level.
The only animal you won’t find here is the giraffe. You can have a think about why that might be on the way down into the crater. Otherwise, you’ll find all the safari animals here – and lots of them! Elephants, zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, lions, flamingos, hippos, antelopes, storks, hyenas, jackals – and, yes, you might even be lucky enough to see the endangered black rhinoceros here.
Once again, you have lunch with you in the car, often enjoyed by a scenic lake with a view of hippos and lots of birds.
Late in the afternoon, you will head back to Karatu, where you’ll spend one more night.
After this little taster of safari life in Tanzania, it’s time to head for the sun, beach and azure waters. From Karatu, you’ll drive back to Arusha before flying to Zanzibar.
You’ll be met at the airport by our local partner and driven to your hotel, where you’ll be staying for the next 4 nights.
The days are yours to do as you please.
Located in the Indian Ocean, Zanzibar consists of the main islands of Unguja (unofficially known as Zanzibar) and Pemba, as well as myriad small islands. You’ll be spoiled by both the fascinating culture and beautiful nature.
Zanzibar offers white sandy beaches and azure waters. A hot, sunny climate all year round is conducive to relaxation and a beach holiday all year round.
The island’s dramatic history includes Arab sultans, Portuguese seafarers, slave trading and European explorers, all of which have left their mark on the island. This is also where Stone Town, one of East Africa’s most exciting and charming cities, is to be found, packed with beautiful Arabic architecture, winding alleys, fun shops – not to mention the delicious Swahili cuisine and friendly people.
You’ll be picked up from the hotel and driven to the airport, where your journey home starts.
You arrive in the UK after a wonderful holiday.

If you love Marrakesh, you’ll love Stone Town too. Narrow, winding streets without pavements, constant swarms of children and adults, bicycles, donkeys and merchants peddling everything in small shops sitting right out into the road. At the square’s “barazas” (built-in benches) in the middle of the labyrinth, men sit and talk over cups of strong coffee while children play ball and a cat stretches lazily in the sun.
At first sight, the city looks quite ramshackle, but just take a look at the doors! The big, heavy, elaborately decorated wooden doors are in many ways synonymous with Zanzibar’s biggest city.
There are markets and museums here, plenty of excursion opportunities and a vibrant waterfront. During the day, the waterfront is well-frequented by locals taking strolls, young men making trips from the quay as well as fishing and tourist boats both arriving and setting off. In the evening, there is a local market here.
Stone Town is in many ways practically an experience of the senses. Here you will find smells and sounds, flavours, colours, history and culture – Stone Town has it all. It is no mystery that the town is on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
