Floating pagodas and Chae Son National Park
You might think that when you’ve seen one temple, you’ve seen them all, but that is so not the case with Wat Chaloem Phra Kiat, which is one the most spectacular and as yet unknown temples in the world.
You will be picked up from the hotel early in the morning, and we recommend that you ask the hotel the day before to make you a packed breakfast, which you can bring with you on the tour. The drive takes around 3 hours, transporting you through scenic landscape to Lampang Province, where the temple is located.
You arrive at a car park where a shuttle bus will take you the last stretch of the way up the mountain. Here, 500 steps lead you up to the top of one of Thailand’s most breathtaking viewpoints. It’s a tough climb, but once you get to the top, you are rewarded with an indescribable panoramic view of the villages, the Thung Thung Valley and, not least, the white pagodas of the temple perched high on the mountain peaks – an absolutely stunning sight! The guide will tell you about the history of the religious creation, which is relatively young, and you will have enough time to enjoy and admire the site and the impressive work that has gone into it.
You will then be driven to Chae Son National Park, where lunch is enjoyed before exploring the park with the guide. Chae Son National Park is known for its steaming, hot springs. Some heat up to 80 degrees, making it possible to boil eggs in them! Others, however, are a more comfortable temperature should you feel like dipping your feet in them.
You will then be driven to Trilak, the resting place of the highly esteemed and respected monk Luang Phor Kasem, a descendant of one of Lampang’s former kings. You will hear the mysterious story of the monk before driving back to Chiang Mai.
On the way to Chiang Mai, you will make a final stop at the Baan Ta Market, which is known for its northern Thai specialities. You might also like to buy some spices to take home with you to your own kitchen.
