Snorkelling trip to the Similian Islands by speedboat
The Similan Islands are known to be Thailand’s best diving and snorkelling spot – and yes, it’s every bit as beautiful there in reality as in the pictures!
A visit to the Similan Islands is on many people’s wish list because they are surrounded by the most beautiful coral reef, where you can experience an incredibly varied marine life, including fish in all the colours of the rainbow, turtles, seahorses, etc. – and the islands also happen to offer some of the country’s best beaches with white sand and crystal-clear waters.
You will be picked up from the hotel early in the morning and driven to the Nam Kem pier, where a speedboat will be waiting. On board the boat, you will be instructed in safety and the rules on the Similan Islands, and you will be kitted out with a diving mask, snorkel and flippers.
After a good hour and a half, you arrive at the archipelago. The speedboat switches off its engines and glides slowly into the beach of island No. 8, Koh Similan. All the islands have names, but in everyday speech they are simply referred to by number. You will be shown the rock that the bay is named after “Donald Duck Bay”. There will be time to relax on the beautiful bounty beach and to explore the island, e.g. to the viewpoint Sail Rock, where you can enjoy the view of both the beach and the neighbouring islands.
Similan consists of a total of 9 islands and is part of Similan Marine National Park. The government is doing a lot to protect and preserve the islands and marine life, so it is only possible to visit two of the islands, which are also closed to tourists every year from 16 May to 31 October. During this period, the islands are completely deserted and untouched.
You go back on board the boat, which transports you to the first snorkelling stop of the day. You put on a mask, snorkel and flippers and jump into the water, where you will discover the stunning underwater world with its beautiful corals and striped fish – you might even be lucky enough to spot Nemo!
The next stop is island No. 4, Koh Miang, where some 40 different bird species have been counted. The boat docks at Honeymoon Bay, where lunch is served with the most beautiful view of the clear, turquoise water. After lunch you can go on a short walk to Princess Bay, where you can enjoy one of the archipelago’s best and most beautiful beaches.
The boat takes you to another popular snorkelling spot before heading back to the Nam Kem pier.
On the way back, you may be lucky enough to see dolphins, which are not a rare sight in these parts.
You arrive at the hotel late afternoon.
Please note that the tour is not possible from 16 May to 31 October, as the national park is closed every year during this period.
Lunch is included in the price.
