Why should you travel to Thailand?

Thailand has it all!

Experiences you can enjoy here include fascinating mountain tribes, cities full of contrasts, unique national parks, delicious cuisine and endless white sandy beaches.

Thailand is an exciting country and one of Asia’s top destinations, and whether you are into big cities, nature or beach holidays, Thailand can provide you with a tour for life.

Our tours in Thailand

On a tour to Thailand, you can look forward to experiencing a wide range of Thailand’s greatest sights, such as the lively capital Bangkok, the charming city of Chiang Mai in the north, Mae Hong Son’s fascinating culture and nature as well as exceptional beaches in the south.

Read more about what you can experience on our tours below.

Bangkok

Bangkok is Thailand’s capital and largest city – a city that takes most people’s breath away.

Here, you will experience illuminated shopping centres and architect-designed skyscrapers, located side by side with small shops and shiny temples; the aromas from the many street kitchens mixing with the fumes from the dense traffic, which is slowly being overtaken by the many boats on the canals; and the orange-clad monks zigzagging between busy business people, schoolchildren and tourists in the city streets.

In Bangkok, you will find plenty of contrasts between old and traditional, and new and contemporary in one beautiful union.

Discover sights such as:

  • The royal Grand Palace, one of Bangkok’s biggest attractions. The palace, which was completed in 1782, was the king’s home for 150 years. The palace houses Thailand’s most sacred Buddha statue, made from one huge piece of shining green jade.
  • In Bang Yai, you will experience a very different Bangkok, with narrow streets and not as much traffic as in the city centre. Visit Bangkok’s second largest reclining Buddha at Wat Bang Yai. (The biggest is at Wat Pho).
  • The large network of waterways, or “klongs”. Sail in a traditional Thai long-tail boat, and experience Bangkok from the water, where you will see that buildings face the water rather than the streets, showing just how important the canals are.
  • One of Bangkok’s countless markets, where you can buy clothes and souvenirs or eat at the street kitchens. Visit, for example, the Chatuchak market, which has more than 15,000 stalls and is one of the biggest weekend markets in the world, or one of the many floating markets, which, as the name suggests, take place on the water.
  • Well tucked away across the Chao Phraya River, you can experience an untouched corner of Bangkok, Bang Kra Jao, which can only be reached by boat. Discover green, undisturbed nature with banana palms, waterfalls and thick bamboo. Go on a scenic bike ride around the villages, meet the smiling locals and catch a glimpse of the Bangkok skyline in the background.

Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai is Thailand’s second largest city where, despite its size, you will find a peaceful and extremely charming city with an interesting cultural background.

From 1296 to 1768, Chiang Mai was the capital of the Lanna Kingdom, which extended to the present-day Laos. The legacy of the Lanna Kingdom still remains, in the local cuisine, for example.

In and around Chiang Mai, you can:

  • See northern Thailand’s beautiful and extremely sacred temple Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, located on a mountainside in Doi Pui National Park. Doi Suthep is a stunning golden pagoda from 1383 containing relics of Buddha. From the temple, there is a beautiful view over Chiang Mai.
  • Visit one of Chiang Mai’s many markets, such as Chiang Mai’s famous night market, where locals and visitors gather to shop or dine at one of the many street kitchens.
  • Experience Doi Inthanon National Park, which among other things is home to Thailand’s highest mountain (2,565 AMSL). Look forward to discovering the stunning, wild scenery on a hike along the Kew Mae Pan Nature Trail, for example, where one of Northern Thailand’s most beautiful panoramic views awaits you.

Mae Hong Son

Mae Hong Son is a charming and remote province in Northwestern Thailand close to the border with Myanmar. Mae Hong Son, the provincial capital of the same name, is famous for its laid-back atmosphere and traditional Thai culture. Here you can explore beautiful temples such as Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu, which offers stunning views (and sunrise!) of the city and the surrounding landscape.

Mae Hong Son is also a gateway to adventure on the Mae Hong Son loop (a route of just over 600 km that starts in Chiang Mai). The loop offers lots of nature experiences with beautiful vantage points, traditional villages and visits to ethnic minorities.

Island hopping and beach holiday in Thailand

The southern part of Thailand provides ample opportunities for combining your tour with a beach holiday on one of Thailand’s beautiful beaches or island hopping between some of Thailand’s fantastic islands.

Central Thailand at the Gulf of Thailand

Head to Central Thailand and discover the beautiful islands such as Koh Chang, Koh Kood and Koh Samet.

Be impressed by Koh Kood, which, with its quiet beaches and untouched nature with rainforest and beautiful waterfalls, focuses on natural and tranquil experiences.

Southeastern Thailand at the Gulf of Thailand

Go on a beach holiday and island hopping in the southeastern part of Thailand, and experience some of Thailand’s most popular beach holiday islands, e.g. Koh Samui or Koh Phangan.

Here there is everything that you can dream of for a beach holiday destination: long, beautiful sandy beaches, turquoise waters and coconut palm trees. You can laze at the edge of the water, snorkel among brightly coloured fish and hike in the lush jungle, which offers both waterfalls and breathtaking vantage points!

Southwestern Thailand at the Andaman Sea

On the western side of Thailand, at the Andaman Sea, you will find many unique islands and beaches.

Here you will find Phuket, Thailand’s largest island, which impresses with its golden sand and shady palm trees. Enjoy days at the beach or go on excursions, for example to the Phang Nga Bay, characterised by its impressive limestone cliffs jutting out vertically from the emerald waters.

In addition to Phuket, we also offer islands such as Koh Ngai and Koh Yao Yai, as well as beach areas like Khao Lak and Krabi, in this area of Thailand.

Other experiences in Thailand

Thailand offers a whole host of experiences, in addition to those mentioned above.

In Thailand, you can, for example, experience the following:

  • The River Kwai and the surrounding area, where you spend the night at a “flotel” – a hotel built on a raft on the River Kwai. Discover the Death Railway, built from Thailand to Myanmar during World War II. It took 18 months to build the 415-km stretch, and more than 100,000 men died in the process. Hell fire Pass was one of the hardest places to build on the route.
  • North of Chiang Mai, near the border with Myanmar and Laos, is Chiang Rai. The area, which is known as The Golden Triangle, was once at the centre of the opium trade. The scenery here is unique, with valleys, mountains and rainforest, as well as interesting villages and ethnic mountain tribes. Visit the beautiful, sacred temple Wat Phra Kaew and sail on the Mekong River, which marks the border with Laos.
  • The ChangChill Elephant Sanctuary, where you gain an insight into the lives of the mighty giants. They live a peaceful life here, and as a visitor, you can observe them from a distance, e.g. when they take mud baths or socialise with each other. The sanctuary opened in 2017 in collaboration with World Animal Protection.
  • Khao Sok National Park, which is one of Thailand’s largest and most scenic national parks. Discover ancient, undisturbed rainforest where you can encounter the local wildlife, including macaques, and sail on the expansive Cheow Lan Lake, and experience the beautiful scenery from the water.
  • The historic ruin city of Ayutthaya, which was the capital from 1350 to 1767. The park itself offers some impressive temples and ruins, including the UNESCO-listed Wat Phra Sri Sanphet. Take a boat trip around the historic park and watch the sun set over the impressive Wat Chai Wattanaram, which some find reminiscent of Angkor Wat in Cambodia.

Answers to the most frequently asked questions about our tours to Thailand

When you are planning a tour to Thailand, many questions may arise.

Below we have answered a number of the most frequently asked questions.

Where is Thailand located?

Thailand is located in the middle of Southeast Asia. The country is bordered by Myanmar to the north-west, Laos to the north-east, Cambodia to the south-east and Malaysia to the south-west.

How long does it take to fly to Thailand?

It typically takes 10-11 hours to fly from Denmark to Thailand. The actual time depends on your itinerary, including whether you have stopovers en route and how long any such stopovers last.

When is the best time to go to Thailand?

You can visit Thailand all year round, and there is no bad time as such to go to Thailand.

The weather in Thailand is characterised by a tropical climate, which means relatively high temperatures throughout the year, but also clearly defined rainy and dry seasons that fall at different times in the various parts of the country. The best time therefore depends both on where you want to go and what you dream of experiencing on your tour.

Many travellers prefer to visit Thailand during the dry season, which is between November and February in most of the country. The dry season is characterised by pleasant (not too hot) temperatures and minimal rainfall.

In Southern Thailand, the seasons are a little different. On the west coast (Khao Sok, Phuket, Krabi, Khao Lak, Koh Yao Yai), the dry season is from December to March, and on the east coast (Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao), it is from January to September.

Do you need a visa to visit Thailand?

As a Danish citizen, you typically do not need a visa for Thailand.

We recommend that you check our practical info or the Foreign & Commonwealth Office’s website.

Do I need to be vaccinated before travelling to Thailand?

Yes – you will probably need to be vaccinated before travelling to Thailand.

Which vaccinations you will need will depend on several things, for example which vaccinations you have previously received. We therefore recommend that you contact a specialist, your own doctor or an authorised vaccination clinic for advice on which vaccinations you need before your tour.

However, you should be aware of the rules regarding yellow fever, especially if you are travelling to Thailand via another country where there is yellow fever. In fact, some countries require proof of yellow fever vaccination upon entry.

Can you bring children with you to Thailand?

Yes! You do not need to be concerned about travelling to Thailand with children. Thailand is a fantastic destination for families, and there are great experiences in store for small travellers.

The Thais love children, the beaches on the countless islands and along the coast are child-friendly, the nature is wonderful, and the children can get acquainted with a different, colourful culture.

The long flight is typically the aspect that can discourage parents if they are to bring (small) children with them on the tour. We have therefore put together 7 tips for surviving a long flight with children, which can hopefully make your tour a little more manageable.

What should I bring?

Your packing list may change depending on the weather, the content of the tour and your co-travellers. For example, you should bring rainwear when travelling during the rainy season, and your packing list should also be adjusted when you are travelling with a baby or children.

We have made a recommended packing list for Thailand for travellers who need to pack for themselves, for travellers who are travelling with children and for travellers who are travelling with a baby.

If you remember to pack all the essentials, personal items like your passport and wallet, you will be well on your way. If you forget something at home, there is hardly anything you cannot get in the Thai stores.

What do you eat in Thailand?

Thai food is known and loved all over the world.

The Thais generally eat many rice and noodle dishes, and among the most popular are Pad Thai, fried rice and Panang curry.

You can try these dishes in traditional restaurants or classic Thai food markets. There will be plenty of opportunities to taste your way through Thailand’s culture on your tour.

Can you haggle over prices?

Both yes and no.

In some stores, you will be able to haggle over the price, but this is not the case everywhere. For example, prices in large stores and shopping centres will be fixed. You will be able to judge for yourself in the store whether price haggling is acceptable. In markets where, for example, many stalls sell the same goods, it will make good sense to haggle over the price, and you can advantageously follow our tips for price haggling in Asia.

Elsewhere in Thailand, for example at food markets, you will find that the prices are already so low that price haggling does not make sense.

What is the tipping policy in Thailand?

Tipping is welcome in Thailand, but it is up to you whether you want to tip and how much you want to give.

We have prepared an indicative overview of tipping in Thailand. Prices are in the Thai currency baht (THB). You can find the current exchange rate for Thai baht here.

  • Guides: THB 150-300 per day per person
  • Drivers: THB 50-150 per day per person
  • Bellhop: THB 50-100 per piece of luggage
  • Maid: THB 50-100 per room, per day
  • Restaurants: At some, more international restaurants, tips are often included in the price, and it will be entered on the bill as a ‘service charge’. In such case, no further tipping is necessary. If tips are not included in the price, you can add 5-10% yourself if the service and food have been good. At local restaurants and street food stalls, tipping is not expected, but you can leave some change after the meal.
