San Diego whale watching by yacht (morning)
Whales can be spotted in San Diego all year round, and that’s exactly the purpose of this trip.
Although there’s no guarantee of what will appear at sea, the experienced guides will try to find their way to the whales. It goes without saying that this takes place on the animals’ terms and at a considerable distance from them.
The season for seeing grey whales runs from mid-December to April. Blue whales and fin whales are typically spotted from April to August. Humpback whales and minke whales are most often seen in spring, summer and autumn.
The 141-foot-long Yacht America also sails past the US Navy base in Point Loma, so it’s not uncommon to see F-18s in the air. A stop is made at the Point Lomas lighthouse, which is home to a number of dolphins and sea lions.
