Bike ride in the outskirts of Hoi An (morning)
On this wonderful bike ride, you’ll experience Hoi An’s hidden passages and winding alleys, and you’ll gain an exciting insight into local life in the outskirts of Hoi An.
The tour starts at 25 Dinh Tien Hoang, Son Phong, which you make your own way to. Once here, you’ll be kitted out with a bicycle and bicycle helmet. An experienced cycling guide will accompany you.
The first stop is at the Japanese Bridge, one of Hoi An’s landmarks. More than 400 years old, the bridge is depicted on the back of the Vietnamese 20,000 dong note. The bridge was once a link between the Japanese and Chinese districts of Hoi An.
You then cross the canal bridge and cycle past the lovely, old houses and on to a local family, where you’ll learn how to make the local dish “banh dap”, which is a kind of rice pancake.
After becoming an expert at making “banh dap”, you’ll cycle on to one of Hoi An’s most scenic villages. Along the way, you’ll see children playing and waving as you cycle past. At the village, you’ll visit a local family, where you’ll hear about their somewhat unusual business.
Back in the saddle, you’ll cycle past rice fields and vegetable farms and along small canals and waterways to a boatyard. Fishing is still one of the biggest sources of income here in the province, and the building of the fishing boats is quite amazing to witness.
The roads narrow from here, and you’ll now be cycling on concrete tracks to the last stop of the tour, which is at a mat weaving shop and a family distillery that produces rice wine. Perhaps you’d like a taste?
You cycle through the small alleyways and passages back to where the tour started, before making your own way back to the hotel.
