Train ride with colonial style and dinner
Dinner aboard one of the two trains pulled by classic steam locomotives, The Royal Livingstone Express or Bushtracks Express is a very special experience. Take a trip back in time to the colonial era in the old, 1930s train carriages, which have been lovingly restored. The trains depart from Livingstone (Livingstone) or Victoria Falls (Bushtracks).
Both trains depart in the late afternoon. Enjoy an aperitif in the lounge car while the train gently winds its way towards Victoria Falls Bridge.
Both trips cross the iconic Victoria Falls Bridge. In the middle of the bridge, the train stops so you can get out and enjoy the stunning view of Victoria Falls and the sunset over the cascading water. Walk all the way up to the front of the locomotive and look into the big, flame-filled fire box. Jump up into the seat and pull the horn. You might like to get a fellow passenger to take a picture of you – when else will you get the chance to play at being a steam engine driver?
After the stop on the bridge, the trains head back to either Zambia or Zimbabwe, and it’s time for you to find the elegant dining car where a five-course meal with wine is served.
You arrive back in Livingstone or Victoria Falls late evening.
The Royal Livingstone departs from Livingstone on Wednesdays and Saturdays, while Bushtracks Express departs from Victoria Falls on Tuesdays and Fridays.
The tour is not recommended for children under the age of 12. Smart casual dress is recommended, though formal dinner dress is not required.
Don’t forget your passport, as you will cross the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe during the journey. You can read more about visas for Zambia/Zimbabwe in our practical information.
