Whether you come to Zanzibar after a safari tour or a trek to the top of Kilimanjaro, you’ll be needing relaxation, a cosy atmosphere, self-pampering, good food, massage and a dip in the sea. You’ll find all of this at Spice Island Hotel & Resort, which is located in the south-eastern part of the island.
Decorated in classic Zanzibar style, the family-run hotel has its own private beach and is all but located in a large botanical garden with more than 3,000 exotic plants, trees and flowers.
The resort oozes holiday atmosphere and relaxation. The communal areas are incredibly cosy and the entire resort has a special vibe, which makes you feel completely relaxed and very welcome immediately.
The restaurant and lounge area are furnished with soft sofas, chairs and daybeds. With its cosy atmosphere and the beautiful view of the beach and the sea, it’s hard to tear yourself away from here, and we’re sure this will become your favourite area at the resort. Borrow a book from the library or take a nap in the breeze from the garden.
If you manage to leave the lounge, you can go for a stroll out on the long jetty and enjoy even more views and ocean breezes – and have a nice cup of coffee in the cosy lounge bar at the end of the jetty. At low tide, you can jump into the water from the steps on the jetty – and afterwards enjoy a cold drink and a snack at the bar.
If you feel the need to do something, you can head to the pool or add some excitement to your holiday by renting a bike and cycling to the small town of Jambiana near the hotel or perhaps to Paje, slightly further north. A few kilometres from the hotels, there is a dripstone cave, which is worth a visit.
Visit the small spa, which can loosen those stiff muscles after your Kili trek or safari.
The hotel’s restaurant serves delicious local dishes with fish and shellfish, as well as a variety of dishes from African, Indian and Arab cuisine. The food is fresh and well made. Breakfast consists of a buffet, as well as eggs and pancakes served directly from the kitchen, just as you want them.
The hotel has 34 rooms divided between bungalows of different sizes. There are two rooms in each bungalow – each room has its own entrance and a pleasant terrace. The rooms feature traditional furniture, an en suite bathroom, air conditioning, a safe and a small seating area for optimal comfort.
Free Wi-Fi is also available in all communal areas.

On the scenic west coast of Zanzibar, overlooking the azure blue waters of the Indian Ocean, is where you’ll find the 5-star Zuri Zanzibar.
“Zuri” means “beautiful” in Swahili, and you will not be disappointed when you arrive at the hotel.
It’s almost as if Zuri Zanzibar has been built in its own little micro-universe. The 55 bungalows, suites and villas lie scattered in a large tropical garden, overlooking the sea. The hotel has its own spice garden, where you can become acquainted with some of the many spices that Zanzibar is so famous for.
Inspiration for the décor of all the bungalows is drawn from contemporary African architecture, focusing on sustainability. The accommodation offers everything you could wish for: your own large, well-furnished terrace, indoor and outdoor shower, tea and coffee making facilities, free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, flat screen TV, etc., not to mention an incredibly chilled and welcoming atmosphere.
The beach is perfect. The sand is white, the water is turquoise blue, and due to the shape of the seabed, the beach here is much less affected by the tide than is the case elsewhere on the island.
The hotel has 3 restaurants and 3 bars but you are, of course, welcome to eat on your own terrace if you prefer.
Enjoy a trip to the day spa or take part in a yoga class. Swim a few lengths of the 32-metre infinity pool, which overlooks the ocean. Cooking classes are offered in the spice garden – or you can grab a book and enjoy a quiet moment in one of the many cosy corners of the garden. If you’ve forgotten to bring a book with you, you can borrow one from the hotel’s library – if, that is, you don’t want to make use of the water sports centre, where you can rent snorkelling and diving equipment as well as book various sailing trips.
Zuri Zanzibar is a true gem of the luxurious kind.
If you would like to upgrade to Zuri Zanzibar, we recommend that you book in really good time as the hotel is extremely popular.
Please note that Zuri Zanzibar is closed from 1.05.25 – 31.05.25.

Dream of a relaxed and undisturbed luxury holiday in Zanzibar? Then a stay at The Residence is definitely for you.
This truly is classic five star at its best!
The luxury resort is located on the south-western coast of the island – just over an hour’s drive from the international airport, yet a whole world away! Situated in the midst of a large tropical garden and overlooking the coconut palms swaying in the breeze on the kilometre-long white sandy beach, the hotel offers 66 exclusive, private villas.
And these really are villas in the best sense of the word, with a living room, bedroom, bathroom and a large terrace with a private pool. Tastefully appointed with a blend of muted colours and dark mahogany furniture in classic Zanzibar style. With plenty of space around you, you can almost feel yourself winding down the moment you step through the door. You have everything you need here: A TV, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, a safe, outdoor and indoor shower, bath tub, tea and coffee making facilities, etc. When you open the doors to your private terrace, you have sun loungers and your own pool. A couple of bicycles await you just outside the door should you get the urge to explore the local area.
We predict, however, that you will spend most of your time at the resort – it has everything the heart desires! It has two restaurants and two bars, both of which also serve light meals and snacks. For an additional fee, you can also choose to have the food served in your own villa.
The infinity pool is huge, with a glass “wall” overlooking the sea. The 150-metre long jetty entices with cocktails and the island’s best sunset after a day of tennis, spa, kayaking, sunbathing, volleyball, naps in the shade, “reef walking”, plenty of ice creams by the pool – and perhaps a visit to the local dolphin colony.
Children have room to be children here, and they have their own “Kid’s Club”, where everything from baking and hair braiding to “how-to-help-homeless-animals” courses are arranged. As all villas have their own pool – and are scattered throughout the large tropical garden – it is a wonderful, relaxing place for families with children and honeymooners alike.
Please note that The Residence is closed from 02.05.25 – 31.05.25.

Situated at the northern tip of Zanzibar on the famous Nungwi beach is the fabulous Z Hotel.
Enjoy the relaxed, intimate vibe, which is aimed especially at couples and smaller groups, as the hotel’s age limit is 16+. The beach is white, the water is clear and warm, and the little town of Nungwi offers small cafés, lots of shopping and a good range of activities.
There are only 40 rooms here, all of which have art on the walls, colourful cushions and lampshades that create a cosy contrast to the coconut wood furniture. Each room has its own character. All rooms have air conditioning, a flat screen TV, a minibar, a safe and Wi-Fi. All of the rooms also have a private balcony with garden furniture.
The hotel’s two restaurants enjoy great views of the beach and the turquoise-blue sea. So, you can enjoy some good food and drink with a great view of the Indian Ocean. One restaurant serves light, Asian-inspired dishes and classic café food, while the main restaurant offers an exciting menu with new interpretations of African and European cuisine, as well as an array of seafood dishes. Cocktails are served on the top floor – the perfect place to enjoy the sunset. It’s also here at the top of the hotel that you’ll find the yoga centre.
Enjoy the large pool, go for a walk on the beach, read a good book in the shade of a parasol or enjoy a good massage in the hotel’s fabulous day spa.
Please note that Z Hotel will be closed from 1.05.25 – 31.05.25.

With only 56 rooms, Nungwi Dreams is one of the smaller hotels in Zanzibar. The atmosphere at the hotel is both intimate and luxurious – but in a relaxed way.
You might describe it as Nordic charm meets Zanzibar.
The rooms are large and elegantly furnished and they all have their own balcony – some, however, mostly have a view of the small paths that connect the rooms with each other. In turn, you are never far from a pool, because – a bit unusually for a boutique hotel with only 56 rooms – there are two pools, both obviously offering views of the Indian Ocean. At high tide, you can swim from the beach just below the hotel, and, at low tide, the play of colours between the white sand, the green ‘islands’ with seaweed against the turquoise sea provides the most stunning view!
Enjoy a drink at the hotel’s rooftop bar with a 360-degree view before you head to one of the hotel’s two restaurants, where the chefs will pamper your taste buds.
If you choose to upgrade to Nungwi Dreams, we recommend that you choose either Sea View or Ocean Front.

We’ll admit it. You’ve got to be prepared for a good “African massage” to get to Zanzi Resort. The gravel road is bumpy and full of holes. But it’s worth the effort as a little piece of paradise awaits you at the end of the road!
If it’s undisturbed privacy you’re after, Zanzi is the one to choose.
The staff do their utmost to look after you, yet in a virtually invisible way, right up until you need something. Then they’re there, and pretty much anything is possible. If you book the resort’s private dhow, it’s a private tour you go on. If you want to eat on your terrace, simply call the restaurant and the food will arrive – at no extra charge of course. There is no set breakfast time and if you choose to sit in the restaurant, you can look forward to a cosy, romantic experience with gentle music and dim lighting. The chef is creative and the food is really delicious! The wine and cocktail list is extensive, and they make the best coffee imaginable!
There are only 13 bungalows/villas: 4 garden bungalows, 1 family garden bungalow, 4 ocean view villas and 4 ocean access villas. The small houses all have their own undisturbed garden with chairs, tables and sun loungers. They are located on a very large plot with a good distance between them, guaranteeing your privacy. It goes without saying that the bungalows and villas all offer everything you need: air conditioning, a minibar, a flat-screen TV, tea and coffee making facilities, a safe and exquisite toiletries.
The villas all have their own pool of a reasonable size. The bungalows have shared use of the large pool, which you will often have to yourself, as it’s really only guests in the bungalows who use this pool.
As the name suggests, Ocean view villas have a view of the beautiful turquoise sea. Ocean access villas have their own stairs, allowing you to walk directly from the villa and down into the sea at high tide.
The beach is small, and at low tide, the rocks are visible. Thanks to the 100-metre-long jetty, you can still swim, and if all that swimming makes you thirsty, you can simply call the bar from the jetty, and a waiter will come down to you with a cold beer.
The sunset is phenomenal from the jetty, and it’s not uncommon to see dolphins from here in the early morning or late in the day.
As the resort is very small, we recommend booking well in advance (at least 6–8 months ahead) if you want to upgrade to Zanzi.
Please note that Zanzi Resort is closed from 01.04.25 – 30.04.25.
