Beate and her husband take a photo in front of Uluru in Australia

In November 2023, our travel specialist Beate was in Australia on an enchanting tour of Australia’s beautiful landscapes, exciting cities and hospitable people.

We have been on the adventure of a lifetime: a tour of enchanting Australia! And, yes, it’s a long way to go, but despite some initial challenges at the beginning of the long journey, we were rewarded with unforgettable experiences, exciting cities and wonderful beaches.

Beautiful building in Melbourne, Australia

Our tour started in Melbourne – a “hip” city with countless cafés, free (!!!) trams and exciting street art. We gradually got used to the Australians’ “no worries” approach; they take everything in their stride.

Beate standing in front of the Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge in Australia

We continued our journey to vibrant Sydney, where modern architecture meets natural beauty. The sight of Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House is simply overwhelming. The city oozes energy, and the mix of cultural diversity and urban flair is a feast for the senses.

A man takes a picture of Uluru in Australia

And then the next highlight of our tour awaited: The mysterious rock formation Uluru, which is the sacred site of the Aborigines. Its imposing presence and the changing colours at sunrise and sunset are absolutely magical. It’s as if nature was speaking to us – it’s breathtakingly beautiful!

Beate on a boat at the Great Barrier Reef in Australia

We continued our tour by travelling to the tropical north to Queensland: For water lovers and adventurers, the Great Barrier Reef is an unforgettable experience. Snorkelling and diving in this underwater paradise is a must. The array of different colours and species amazes most people – even seasoned divers! You get to experience nature in its purest form here and can enjoy the beauty of the underwater world to the fullest. This is the first time I’ve tried snorkelling, and I think it’s going to be my new hobby!

Man standing in Daintree rainforest in Australia

In the Daintree rainforest, a unique phenomenon awaits us: the world’s oldest rainforest, bordering the Great Barrier Reef. Two UNESCO World Heritage Sites in one place! It’s an impressive connection between land and sea almost only found in Australia.

Lots of oysters

The culinary experiences in Australia are every bit as impressive as the landscapes. A “barbie” is pretty much mandatory. Juicy steaks, fresh fish and delicious seafood – a real feast for foodies. And for wine lovers: Australia’s wine regions offer a wealth of exquisite and delicious wines. From the full-bodied Shiraz to the refreshing Sauvignon Blanc, there’s something here for every taste.

And a little tip for all visitors: Free water is served in all cafés and restaurants. A small but nice example of Australian kindness and hospitality.

This tour is an unforgettable adventure through the diversity of this fascinating continent, its warm and open people and spectacular sights.

Beate,
