Life in a Khmer village – full day excursion
You will be picked up by a guide from your hotel and driven approx. 40 km outside Siem Reap to the small village of Knapor. On your arrival, you will be given a brief introduction to village life by a local host. Afterwards, you visit the ruins of a small hidden jungle temple, where the silence contrasts with the buzzing activity of the many visitors at Angkor Wat. Back in the village, you visit a local Khmer family which makes a living from making brooms. You get to see how they make them, and you can help if you wish.
You are then given a guided tour of the village, giving you an opportunity to see and take part in village life. The activities change according to the time of year you visit the village. It might, for example, be time to see how the newly-harvested rice is processed, to feed the animals or to go fishing. This is a tour on which you are welcome to actively participate in the daily activities of the village. It’s a great way to get close to the locals and to enjoy an unforgettable experience.
Then it’s time to enjoy a traditional Khmer lunch in the village.
On the journey back to Siem Reap, you stop at a Buddhist temple where you have the opportunity to be blessed by the monks.
By participating in this tour, you are supporting the development of the local community, as the proceeds from your excursion go, among other things, towards extra teaching for the school children in the small village that our local partner is responsible for.
You are back at the hotel late afternoon.
This excursion is open to TourCompass’ own guests only.
We recommend that you book the excursion when booking the tour.
